I plasti-dipped my hood scoop and made a fake "JCW" grill on my MCS.
Fake MCS JCW grill? How did you do that? Are you talking about that Blue Accent line on the grill. That's what I've been wanting is just to make one instead of buying a whole nother grill.
My wheels are pretty beat, so I dedicated them to winter duty and dipped them white. The key is to get them super clean and then use a TON of spray. At least one can per wheel.
That’s the key! My wheels were a bit scuffed, and dirty. I cleaned them really well. And yes, I too used at least a can per wheel, plus two cans of the clear glossifier on top of that.

Yes, it's the blue accent line. I never found a good term for it. I just taped off the whole car around that piece of trim. It was kind of a pain, but I figured it'd be easier than removing the whole front end. Since that piece is a different material than what's around it, the plasti-dipped peeled off pretty well. I'm sure if you looked really close, especially from under the car, you can errors, but from a foot away, it looks nice. I had one area that came off too much, which needs a touch-up.

Does 1 can per wheel really make that much of a difference? Is it more for protection or color? I'm just asking because I read/heard that in some places even though the instructions say 3-5 coats (I thought it was just a scheme to sell more plasti-dip). I wasn't sure if it was worth it but is it more of an appearance thing or a protection thing.

it’s both actually. It’s to make sure you get a good even coverage, but also, if it’s on thicker, it seems to work better, and look better. I did the backside and inside of the wheels too.
RE: Amount of product
I 100% agree with the "one can per wheel" as a minimum rule of thumb. The biggest difference is in the ease of removal. Durability seems to be good around the 3rd or 4th coat but I aim for 6 minimum (1st coat is technically a half coat because it's not a wet coat?) I don't think it's a scam to get more money, the product is inexpensive as it is.
RE: Texture
Yeah yeah, it's all a scam to make you buy more stuff... But DYC has a product called DipCoat that toughens up the dip and makes it significantly less tacky. I use it on my wheels once a season and on anything that I touch (i.e. hatch handle) after every wash. A $30 bottle will last a lifetime. If the rubber texture doesn't bother you I'm not convinced it would be worth it.

Love the grill addition, looks factory.
Let's pick out your new wheel color together! What MINI wheels do you have on your car?
Here's my favorite dip job (and my dog). Bronze wheels, unimpressed doge

Ok so this accent line is already on your grill. Looking to place one on my grill which does not have an accent line. Maybe will use a heatgun and some acrylic and make one then stick it onto the black grill. $250 for a grill just to have an accent line...sheesh.

I'll take pictures of my wheels tomorrow. Have not gone through a can yet. Have peeled the coating off the wheel a couple of times and re-shot it. More of playing with it than pretending to be a "wheel finish" still looks good. Also having the turbo fan wheels makes it really easy to freehand.

Thanks and those wheels do look nice; dog looks confused.
My wheels are 17" factory, black "8 spoke" wheels (I think I read them called that before). Black version of SLO-MCS's wheels.

F56S has a chrome line out of the factory so it was easy. I am enjoying plasti-dip where you can add personality without commitment and for cheap =)

Hmmm. On a dark grey car? A safe choice would be a hyper silver, something to emulate the light OEM alternate version of those wheels. If you like the dark you could explore a black with color pearl built into it. My current dip is "Obsidian Black" which is black with a little purple pop in direct sunlight. A blue version of that might be safe yet interesting. (I'm pretty much describing the new MINI Yours "Enigmatic Black" now that I think about it.)

Ironically I'm debating either paint or vinyl as a permanent solution to replace my three year old de-chroming dip.
Also for anyone unaware you should check out SuperWrap as an alternative to plastidip. Biggest difference is that it's vinyl based instead of rubber so you lose the tacky feeling that some dislike. They also make claims that it is more durable and heat resistant, they even encourage users to spray their calipers with it which sounds crazy to me. I keep looking for excuses to spray something in my life with their "Wangan Purple".
