Polished stock wheels?

Has anybody taked the stock Mini wheels (R83 to be specific) and had the paint removed and the rims polished? If so is the cheaper than having them chromed? I love the R83 design, I replaced the stock S R84 wheels with them, but when I look at the polished wheels on the xB, I just like the look, and we can't have a xB outshining the MCS!

I have heard of people powdercoating their factory wheels. But never polished and plated.

I think that would look great! I've been thinking about the same thing.

It worked on our Miata 10th Anniversary Model:

Were these originally painted wheels? If so who did the polish job?

Someone at the second AMVIV had polished S-lites. They were professionally done I believe, with the powder coating taken off and the alloy polished. They weren't as bright as chrome, but they don't flake, either.

Sorry I should have been more clear. The Miata 10th Anniversary model comes with polished wheels. What's nice about them is that they are polished, but then they are clear coated. That makes them MUCH easier to take care of IMHO.

I was looking into getting a set of S-lites polished.. It was hard to find someone to do it and do it correctly. If, I was going to get a set done they would be polished to look better than chrome like HRE wheels..

It can be done, my suggestion would be to contact a wheel company like Centerline and see if they would polish your wheels..
