17x8" ET25?

Hey All,

I'm planning to pick up a set of APEX ARC-8 17x8" ET25 wheels for my R53 and pair them with 205/40-17 tires. I'm currently on stock suspension, but considering coilovers.

I know this is an aggressive setup and wonder if anyone has any experience with this wheel size and tire combo. Does anyone know how much camber (if any) would be needed to run that setup on stock suspension or lowered?

Thanks!

Compared to OEM 17x7" et48 wheels your wheels would be 10.3mm further from the inner suspension and poke out 33.7mm more.

Tire diameter would be about 20mm smaller than OEM.

On stock suspension this would increase wheel gap but clearance would be OK. almost 34mm poke would be far out. Negative camber could be used to tilt inward the upper edge of the tire shoulder so poke is less apparent but more negative camber for street use just wears the inner tread edges fast.

Lowered suspension will automatically increase negative camber front and rear, you can adjust some rear camber with stock parts or you can use adjustable front camber plates and rear lower adjustable control arms to balance out camber.

Full coilovers that are fully adjustable for ride height would give you the most flexibility and control over appearance and clearance.

205/40-17 is a little limited on tire selection but OK depending on your needs. I will fit the 8" wide rim OK but the 40 series sidewall is a little stiff and firm riding. Also if your roads are poor then be careful not to hit potholes. If you have very limited miles to drive or only need the tires for display then they will be fine.

If you want better handling and performance then consider Extreme Summer tire- Falken Azenis RT615+ $128 each, 200 treadwear, can be used on track or street but firm riding, noisy and wears fast.

Or if you want a true race tire then Toyo R888R $168 each, 100 treadwear, a road course track tire that is streetable, not for daily commuting. Even more noisy and not for rain.

heres my car, 17x7 et21 fronts, 17x8 et40 rears with 225/45/17 all around... maybe give you a little bit of a starting point to base it on... but i think at that offset they are gonna be really aggressive...

aka...15mm more poke than where mine are in the rear...

What suspension? Looks lowered, how much? What alignment- running more negative camber?

Stock JCW Struts with Swift springs. It has some negitive camber, but not alot, dont know specific numbers as i havent had it aligned in a while..but i would guess no more than a couple degrees... prolly round 1.5-2 if i had to eyeball it...

and just saw he was asking about it for an r53... not too sure how much of a difference that'll make either...

R53 has no room for 225/45-17 tires, R56 can.

So limited on wider wheel sizes since 215/45-17 is about as wide as will fit R53 especially with lowered suspension.

Thank you both for the advice! I think I should be okay with the 17x8" ET25 with 205/40-17 tires on stock suspension. I'll definitely need camber when I lower the car.

Any thoughts on whether the stock 205/45-17 tires have a chance of working? I feel like it may rub without camber.

204/45-17 will work but clearance is better with 205/40-17 or 215/40-17 however tire selection isn't as good.

Which tire were you considering?

Was planning on going with the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires in a 205/40-17 size. Seems to have pretty good reviews overall.
