JCW sports brake kit

Is the BBK from JCW available in the UK yet? If so, does anybody have it? Anybody know when it will be available in the U.S.?

As far as I know, the BBK is still in testing. I've heard an estimate of end 2004 or early 2005.

I was able to score a new brochure from JCW during our UK motoring adventure recently. It has all of the goodies in it including the suspension and brake kits .

I'm reading the end of the year for the brakes over on MINI2....

The end of year is almost here

According to my handy dandy wall calendar, the end of the year is only 3 days away.

Still no word on the date these will be available?

The kit is getting closer....

The kit appears to be closer to U.S. shores! I read this on Gabe's website:

Thanks

I went to the link you had and went to Cooper's site.

Just how much bigger can the brakes be if they fit under 15" wheels? Why do I say 15"? It says that they'll go on all models.

Or, am I making a false assumption that that means with the standard wheels for all models?

That pic seems to make them look like they would fit under 15s...they look tiny.

I would love them to fit under 15s though

The caliper looks stock though? maybe im just crazy

Here is what it says in the brochure hand-distributed to me by Mike Cooper :

"The high safety levels are further optimised with the use of the first-class braking system. At the front larger brake discs and calipers are used. In conjunction with the special brake linings on the rear axle, the sports brakes provide an immediate response with plenty of bite. Performance is assured at all times, even under high thermal loads caused by sporty driving."

Here is more info from Ryephile's 2005 NAIAS thread:

"The new John Cooper Works sports brakes are the perfect match for the car’s dynamic performance. Featuring larger brake discs at the front and special brake linings at the rear, the sports brakes are designed particularly for high thermal loads. And the brake callipers glow in brilliant red like the coil springs on the sports suspension even when they are cold, this eye-catching paintwork giving particularly the John Cooper Works light-alloy wheels a very powerful and dynamic look.

In all, the new sports brakes offer a significant increase in safety, ensuring
a perfect balance of acceleration and stopping distances. The sports brakes from John Cooper Works are scheduled to enter the world market in late January 2005."

the brakes HAVE to fit all models, and therefore MUST fit under 15" wheels.
these calipers feature a larger piston, I would assume, or more pad area, or both. they may be getting the underbridge machined, in order to put larger rotors, hope to see them today or tomorrow if they have them on a vehicle at the show.
my $0.02---POS, and certainly not worth the $$$$$$$$$$$$ that JCW overcharges for their name.

There's something in the latest GoMINI regarding these brakes. It's in an article about someone with a JCW modified MCS in England. He refers to his (I believe this is the right quote) "4 pot JCW brakes." To transfer that from English to the common tongue, I presume that is the same thing as "4 piston brake calipers." Is that right?

I guess I'm going to hop onto Mini2 and have a look there.

the JCW brake I saw at the auto show yesterday, looked exactly like the pic on motoringfile.com. it is AT BEST a two-pot, but certainly appeared to be a single pot.
If some one is talking about his 4-pot brakes, they must mean all 4 brakes:lol :

wheel fitment info from MINI

Stopped off at my MINI dealership today and my MA gave me a printout of all the OEM MINI wheels compatible with the JCW Sports Brake Kit.

Not sure whether the 5.5x16" is a misprint. This could be the part number for the anthracite 2-piece 17" wheel ?

Anyway, looks like in all probability it won't fit 16" and 15" wheels, which makes it difficult for people swopping over to smaller wheels for winter. I don't think it's necessarily an offset issue (so fitting spacers to increase offset might not be a solution for smaller diameter wheels) but probably a rotor diameter and offset issue.

Anyway, maybe someone could fill in the missing wheel descriptions to accompany the part numbers.

Here they are:

Size Part No Type
7x17" 36 11 1 512 352 S-Lite
7x17" 36 11 6 755 813 R90 2-piece (silver)
5.5x16" ? 36 11 6 755 814
7x17" 36 11 6 763 299
7x18" 36 11 6 764 104 JCW 18" wheels
7x17" 36 11 6 767 750 ? 2 piece
7x17 36 11 6 767 911

Here is the part number: 34 11 0 393 455

According to MINI, the kit will fit under my 16" R90 wheels .

Minicoopermike,

I'd double-check just to be sure. I was given a list of the OEM wheels that are compatible with this brake kit (part # 34 11 0 393 455) and the 16" R90s are not on it....unless my MA only printed off one page and didn't give me the complete list of wheels?

Kazlot,

The wheel list was posted by me earlier in this thread (above somewhere).

According to what I was given, neither the R90 16" (36 11 6 759 988) nor the 16" X-Lites (36 11 1 512 350 & 351) are included.

The only question now is whether my MA gave me the complete computer printout

I haven't had time to check with my local dealer (Crown MINI of Richmond) but I received this information from MINI of Sterling on Roadfly:

According to the email I got from a Mini Advisor @ MiniUSA yesterday the JCW brake kit will only work with 05's and is not compatible with 02-04's.

Brembos???

The parts gal at the MINI dealer I go to here in So Cal told me yesterday that the calipers were Brembos. I have Brembos on my car and I have seen the pictures on the JCW website. The calipers they show on the website are definitely NOT Brembos! If you look at the English JCW website (www.johncooper.co.uk , I believe that is it) their MOTORSPORTS calipers look like they may be Brembos, but the little tiny things they are passing off on us are definitely not!

Be careful. Brembo makes all sorts of calipers, they do in fact make smaller ones and ones not as agressive as the BBK offered for our cars now. They easily could be brembo. Heck, brembo even offers OEM-style rotors which look JUST like our stock rotors Not all of their stuff looks as impressive as their BBK but that doesnt mean it cant be brembo
