Well I have decided to get some new Kosei K1 Racing with Yokohama AVS ES 100.

And since they are painted white looked at getting some Rejex to make them easier to clean

But then I got to thinking with all that space between the spokes the stock calipers aren't going to look all that great

So looked up some caliper paint and found G2 Caliper PaintSystem.

They have Red Yellow Blue Silver Gold Black Purple Green White

Now I just need to decide what color will go with my BEP/W MINI

Heres a pic of a purple caliper. Hmmm .bmp's don't do well on NAM.

 

Black calipers - but then again I like minimal and discreet.

 

Well I was thinking one of the following purple, black, or white. Don't think anything else would go very well.

 

The purple probably won't match, so cross that off

As if white wheels weren't hard enough to keep clean, white calipers will be even more difficult! Cross that color off the list too.

I'm doing mine Orange cause that color isn't normally available, and will look cool against my white wheels. You can get that color either by buying several of those paint kits and mixing the paint yourself, or find some hi temp engine paint. I found a Chevrolet Orange which isn't very good--it's matte and kinda brownish. Still looking...

 

That's pretty funny. I was looking at the MINI now that I have it and your old white Kosei's. I was thinking red to contrast against the blue/white car... then I decided the black Wilwoods don't need to be painted. I would rather have had no logo but too late now.

Just as a reality check, brake dust gets on the calipers, if you don't wipe or clean it off regularly it will start to dull the finish of the paint on the calipers.

Newly painted calipers always look sharp but the shiny finish rarely lasts if the brakes are used hard as in autocross or at track events. Repainting once a year probably will be needed due to nicks or very dull and darkened finish.

Heat also is bad on the paint, even brake caliper paint.

You can choose a complementary color (those on opposite ends of the color wheel to make both colors appear brighter). If you have purple then try Yellow, for Blue try Orange and for Red try Green and vice versa.

Black is nice when shiny and when dull and dirty you can say it is "flat black".

 

Bit lairy but....theres a heat paint which AP racing uses which changes color when heat rises, sort of like those hypercolor t-shirts in the early nineties.I.E. blue to gold
Otherwise a nice gloss black would look good!! :smile:

 

I'm kinda with MINIHUNE on this one.

I've done red, blue, yellow and even a very ugly maroon for a customer. Ugh!
The fact is; they look great out of the box and for a few hundred miles, but unless you're **** on cleaning the lighter colors are just a labor of love to keep clean.

If you must....check out some wheel cleaner from Worth. This stuff is easy on Powder coat and paint, it breaks down brake dust and is a very good cleaner.

Also note that some of these finishes are NOT immune to staining by brake fluid when bleeding. Nothing like $100 in PC work stained in 10s by a dribble of fluid. If you do get brake fluid on it and are unsure of what to do- hose it off with WATER. This will rinse away the brake fluid and not damage anything that brake cleaner might. Do NOT wipe it with a rag until after the water. Unless you want rag hair smeared in the streak.

By now you've probably guessed; yup done all of this.

 

I kinda like the orange/bronze color on my Brembo's on the G35C.
but it is another item I need to wipe down occassionally...

I think Im going to leave the MCS's calipers stock since that would be
another item to clean when it collects brake dust.

Also, when you paint your calipers, it kind of reveals more rotor to
wheel gap on those 17's and 18's...kinda says "hey look here!" so I
would probably just leave it alone unless I have nice rotors to fill up
the gap. well, im on 16's so no problems there...

 

What about getting them powdercoated?

 

Indi Blue with white roof/mirror/wheels is minimal and discreet You're funny

 

The Eastwood Company (www.eastwoodco.com) has caliper paint in the same colors that are available elsewhere, but they also have high temp engine paint in many more colors.

 

Actually, the paint reduces the need for frequent cleaning because the smooth paint doesn't trap dirt like the rough texture of the casting. I almost never clean my painted calipers. The image shows my calipers after 4 months without washing. The air compressor blows off just about all the dust off

 

Black. I don't think many of the paints will match the MINI color so do them black.

 

Well if the Rejex works like the reviews and the manufacturer say then it might also keep the calipers easy to clean also.

And I was leaning towards black anyway so looks like thats the way I will go.

 

Is painting the calipers and easy task? Im going to paint mine red to match the kan sticker the nam sticker and it will match the S

Here's a link to tirerack's guide. From reading it, it apears simple enough especially since I will have my pads and wheels off anyway to swap them.
