Soft brake pedal

wondering if I need a set of brakes soon, is it normal for my brake pedal to be soft, when I purchased the vehicle from dealership, they told me they had replaced the brakes.
On a CM, should I replace the rotors at the same time as the pads.

How many miles? I replaced rotors at same time, wasn't worth the time and money reusing them.

if I replace, you recommend doing the rotors at the same time, any recommendations on the type of brakes and rotors.

I'd go to a GOOD TRUSTED shop and have the system flushed and the fluid replaced ......

[actually I'd do it myself but ......]

rotor replacement has ZERO impact on this question ......

OTOH many threads about the need to replace the rotors with every pad change

and ones about checking the need for pads yourself

I know they are there

I posted them .....

Sounds like you need brake fluid service! I'd start with that first!

is this normal for a countryman, I think there maybe air in the system because when I pump a couple of times prior to stopping, the pedal gets hard and higher.
Is the system the same as other vehicles .. pump the pedal and bleed one wheel at a time until the air in the system is all gone.
thanks

yes but ......

if you get air into the ABS system there are other problems

so unless you are 150% sure about doing this correctly it may be best to let the dealer (or other brake place) handle it. I understand when the dealer does it there is actually a computer function that they can plug in that deals with ABS issues. I bleed the system in my 79 no problem-o ... and take the MINIs to the dealer!

Probably Air. Brake Fluid does degrade although and pads and rotors can slightly have an impact. Run stock parts or better. But it's usually air in the system. Possible the dealer who did the brake replacement didn't bleed them 100%.

Yes, the dealer replace the brakes when I purchased the vehicle, in one year I don't think the brakes are dead, so I will take it to a different dealer for them to have the brakes done right.
Thanks for your help

+1 this is what I was getting at. Replacement of brake pads/rotors normally has nothing to do with spongy soft brake pedal....
