Anyone Getting 949 Racing 6UL?

I pre-ordered my set in August when they were first available for pre-sale. Since then, they've pushed the release date from "Late October" To "Late November." Checked early November on their site and it said "ETA Late December." Okay... I check today and now it says "January."

I love how their wheels look, and I'm still willing to wait, however, I feel like it's pretty ridiculous pushing it back so many times.

I tried addressing my concerns via facebook a week or so ago. Went to check my comment today and it's nowhere to be found. They deleted it.

What do you all think?

I have heard they do this. Not the best way to get repeat business.. Sounds like whoever they farm the work out too is having problems and not giving them a good answer so they in turn can't give you an answer, and instead of just owning up to it they delete your posts..

Thanks for the reply! I've heard good things about their wheels, but I guess customer service may not be one of their strongpoints. For what you get, the price of their wheels is amazing. Hopefully it'll be worth the wait!

I've managed to crack the spokes on two different sets of 949's, both autox only wheels. I've decided that for me, as much as I like the look and the price; there are better options out there.

That's a shame - first I've heard of any durability issues on the 6UL.

Maybe I haven't been looking hard enough, though. Always liked the design.

I've read a few, but they were only gen1 and a few gen2 6ul's. Haven't read any bad things on gen3, so gen4 should be much better.

A simple "6ul failure" on both google web and images will pull things up

My first cracked set was gen1, second set was gen2. Supposedly the wheels get stronger with each new gen, but I can't afford to keep trying.

It's pretty common for their wheel shipments to get delayed. It's certainly less than ideal. Unfortunately you don't have many options except to get some different wheels.

Well, if I don't get them by January, I was thinking about canceling my order and grabbing the new Enkei RPF1-RS. Same weight with a slightly lower offset (28mm vs 36).

That's kind of a low offset. This is going on a mini right?

it is... could be poking out quite a bit. Might have to rethink this one in case the 6UL's don't work out. I want 15x8 for sure, though.

I'm starting a new "STX" autocross build, and really hoping these become available soon...

Yay! More people to the STX party!

But you really want 15x9s...

Agreed. In STX you want 15x9's up front. I had no problems with them, needed a 3/8" spacer, 225/45/15's cleared just fine.

Nope not Barry. Idk about easily but they should fit. I think you might want 15x8s in the rear though.

What offset were your wheels?

The reason I got these was to use them for autocross. I thought the wheels spoke design matched the mini very well and looked very oem without too much of an oem look.

I've read that 15x8 runs fine on a mini, but at least a 3mm or 5mm spacer is required for the rears.

I planned on having these for daily driving and seeing how they hold up before using them for autocross.

The wheels I really would like are Gram Lights 57v for daily driving and te 6UL for autocross.

I wouldn't mind 15x8 all around. I'd probably change the fronts to a wider tire (225-250) on an 8" wide wheel while the rears are 205-225 profile.

I think as long as more rubber has more contact with the ground, then all the better.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't an 9" wide wheel with a 225 tire be the same as a 225 with an 8" wide tire? The difference would just be the stretch in the sidewall, right?

A 225 on a 9 will be wider than a 225 on an 8 and will also be supported better and therefore be more responsive.

Looked at 949 Racing's facebook page today... this is what was posted yesterday night:

"Container with our 15x8's is in port. Hoping than we can get through the current mess at Port of Los Angeles quickly. Best guess is that we'll have wheels in our building within 10 day or so.. we hope. Second container of 15x8's about a week behind. 15x9's still on schedule for January some time."

So looks like it's been a port issue. Here's to hoping I get my wheels soon!

They were the +36 offset wheels, I think there's only one offset available from them in that size. (15x9 6ULs).

Just wanted to make an update.

I decided against getting the 6UL's and instead got the Enkei Rpf1's. It was taking too long and with the rainy season approaching I couldn't afford to wait any longer. I'm actually happier with this decision and have no regrets!

As for the offset, it will definitely work. There is a user called "professor" on minitorque who slapped on 15x8 +25 Konig Wideopens (Rpf1 reps) on his mini and the fitment was spot on!

Brian Goodwin of Good-Win-Racing was amazing and the transaction was flawless. I HIGHLY recommend getting things from him (where applicable to Mini's...he mainly does miatas). I'll post pics as soon as they're on the mini!

Are you going with 225/45-15 tires?

I'll post pics of them tomorrow, off the car of course.

I may go to a powder coater tomorrow, I'll see though.

The tires I'm putting on are 205/50r15. They'll fit and they're cheaper, only $300 for all four tires! I'll probably do 225/45 after those ones are done.

On another note yet on the same topic as the thread...

Is anyone interested in buying my 949 racing valve stems and hubcentric rings? There's only 4 valve stems because I got it as a birthday present from my friend and he thought the 6UL's had one stem on each wheel
