What size tires are you planning to put on those wheels?

Not sure if this helps, but it might put some perspective on what you are thinking of trying. I tried 225-45x17 tires on a 7.5”, ET40 wheel and the tires were rubbing on the rear wheel well liners. Charlie Thompson put that same tires on 8.0”, ET45 wheels on his MINI. Seemed to do slightly better, but still made contact with the liner, but not the metal. There is not a lot of distance between the plastic liner and the sheet metal. My guess is that with the stock alignment, the 35 ET and the 8.5” wheel width, that the tire will contact the sheet metal, especially if you plan to use a tire wider than than a 225.
Thank you! I ended up finding 2 minis on fitment industries running 17x8.5 +20 both on 195x40 tires, ideally i'd like to get a little more meat on the tires and maybe go up to a 205 or 215 but if that isn't possible i wouldn't mind. both have shaved fenders and slight camber one being -3 front -2.5 rear, and the other being -3.5 front and -4 rear. i'd like to sit around -2 or less so i'm not too far into stance territory but enough to still be able to fit them under the arches. the first one states only a slight rub on a big dip in the rear and the second says no rubbing. if they can fit those i'd imagine i'd be able to fit the same with maybe a bit meatier tires and less camber hopefully?

It might help to look at a place like Tire Rack to see how wide the tires are in the measured wheel size to give you an idea of whether your choices will fit as compared to what you found that fit. For example a typical 205-40 tire width is measure on a 7” wide wheel, which implies that, if put into an 8.5” wide wheel, it will be the wheel width that will control the overall width of the tire. That would be the same for a 195-40 tire. A 215-40 tire width is measured in a 7.5” wide wheel and it width is 8.6”, so basically it will be no wider than the wheel when put into a 8.5” wide wheel. Of course that doesn’t account for tread width. But that should only come into play if it is the tread that is hitting in the examples you found instead of the sidewall.

Just something to think about.
