Any TPMS difference between '09 R56 and '11 R55?

My dad and I switched wheels but can't get our cars to read the sensors. We did the reset via the tach display menu but no luck. From what I researched (quickly on my phone) shows they are both 433 mhz. Is there a trick to repair them?

The sensors changed in 2010 and thus the newer sensors are not compatible with your car.

What a PITA.

I guess if it bothers us enough we can both head down to the tire place and have them swap the sensors from one set of wheels to the other.

Yeah sucks big-time because it effects you both. I bought a 2nd set of wheels for a previous MINI and just swapped the sensors over because it was the same issue.

I'm finally getting around to sorting this out. Getting new tires mounted next week. OutMotoring sells a kit for $260. TireRack is about the same, MiniPartsMass sells them for about $328.

Any benifit with going with the genuine mini part or should the 3rd party vendors be fine as long as it is for 2009 or later?

I have thee sets of TireRack TPMS kits on thee different cars. The longest has been on the wheels and in service for 5+ years.

Zero issues on all 3.

Why did they change and what changed in 2010? Both sensors are 433Mhz. I got a 2010 MINI and the 2008 wheel sensors don't work. Argh!

from the outmotoring listing:

Please note, as of the Sept 2009 build date MINI has a different frequency for the TPMS sensors. Please note the option on the drop down menu for build date and slight price change for the newer TPMS kit. Also, the Gen3 MINI ("F" series models) use a different kit as well. Please select accordingly.

I figured it is a different system and part number. I am wondering why the change which in hindsight is costly/painful to some owners.

BMW group did the same thing at the time so I believe it was to share relative parts.
