White Wheels

So in a few months I'm planning on going black on my MINI with some gunmetal AR1s which are currently on back-order until May so in the meantime I was thinking of doing my S-lites white just for kicks.

Anyone got any pics of an all black mini (black top and mirrors, no stripes) with white S-lites or any other white wheels?

Sorry no pictures. I think they'd look good, but you will hate trying to keep them looking good. If you go for it use paint not plastidrip. It will look good until you have to clean the dipped wheels. Man that stuff really holds on to the dirt. Those AR1 wheels are nice bet it is hard to wait.

Thanks for the input. Haha I just keep trying to imagine it in my head

Yeah I thought hard about the paint vs plasti-dip with the white for that exact reason but figured just in case I want to sell the s-lites or do a different color if I didn't like the white for some reason, then I'd just do the plasti-dip to be on the safe side. Since its only going to be few a couple of months in between waiting (hopefully) it should be okay.

After a little bit of research I found this which might help if I take the plasti-dip route:

That BDP work's amazing for dipped and non dipped wheels with caked up dust.... took all the crud off my OEM wheels after I first bought the car that had obviously not been taken care of in about 5 min.

Haha awesome. I know in the video it suggests using a pressure washer but I don't have one. Did you use one when you used the BDP?

I was also planning on using the glossifier on the dipped wheels to give it more of a "painted look" so to speak. Supposed to make for an easier cleanup also.

The gloss certainly helps, and no I used a normal hose for clean up and it works great. The pressure washer would just make it slightly faster and you would only need to spray them once for a ton of build-up instead of twice like I had to with a normal hose likely.

That's what I like to hear. Appreciate the info. What's your opinion on the all black/white wheel combo?

Well, I own an R56 with all the chrome dipped black... even the beltline and handles. I'm going to dip my car with pigment in clear dip called Caribbean blue/green from pearlsandpigments.com they did an Evo X in the color if you look at their "examples" section. I'll be dipping my white roof black as well as my wheels and doing White calipers. so black/white wheel combo.. i have on issue with and actually like white on wheels depending on body color.... if your talking Astro black + white wheels.... I love that look.

Pheeew that looks clean, especially on that Evo. Would be really interesting to see on a MINI, definitely would like to see some before and after shots. And the white calipers sound good as well especially since it's not as common (around here at least.) What's your current color on your r56?

I had thought about dipping my handles too but heard they peel a lot due to how often they're touched, and I never got around to the chrome trim line... Right now I've got everything black dipped that was chrome (upper and lower grille, gas cap, headlight rings, tailpipe, wheels, even re-did the hood stripes since they were fading.)

I was thinking of doing either an Astro or midnight black.

There is the front end of my car, If you dip the handles and make sure you get the dip to wrap all the way around when spraying, then take some xylene and a Q-tip and carefully rub the dip off the actual area that gets squeezed in. You will have no issues with your handles. I've had mine done for... 4-6 months now through the winter crap weather and about 6 car washes... no issues at all.

It's laser Blue right now by the way, I'll be doing matching door and hatch jams for the new blue/green color as well.

I've always liked white wheels. I had them on a 911 I owned and thought they were awesome. I never had any difficulty keeping them (and the car) clean.

Thanks for the tip on the handles I'll have to give it a try (when I have the time.) I may just end up getting them painted when the rest of the car gets done. When were you planning on doing the pigment?

I wasn't huge on white wheels originally b/c I would mainly see them on jdm honda civics and integras and they didn't look too good on them. But the first time I saw them on an indie blue MINI with a white roof, I was sold.

Tires with the load range 72, are under minimum load requirements 126 lbs a tire. Your mini would be 500+ pounds under the minimum gross axle weight requirements.

The plan was to dip the entire car and the jambs about.. 2 weekends ago.. however its been below freezing with the windchill for the past month.... and it's not supposed to be above 40 degrees for another couple weeks. So at this point.. I'm shooting for the 28th-2nd as far as getting prep work done and then dipping saturday and sunday. I'm also looking at some new 16x8 et20 ESM-002r wheels and keeping the face matte black, but dipping the barrel inside and out to match the chameleon blue/green with the white calipers.... thought it would be a pretty sweet tie-in!
