I installed a set of AP Racing 4 Pot Caliper Big Brakes on my JCW yesterday, along with cross drilled rotors, Goodridge stainless steel llines on the front and back and Motul racing fluid. (Unfortunately, the distributor messed up and gave me 2 sets of front rotors instead of a set of front and rear rotors, so I'll have to install the rears tomorrow.)

Wow! After bedding in the brakes today, I certainly noticed a big difference over stock. No pedal softness and instant grip. The font pads are Jurids (OEM for Porsche and Mercedes) and designed for street and light track. Still have the original rear pads on the original rotors. I'll probably go with Ferodo 2500's on the rears, if they are available (when I get the rotors).

I sort of went back and forth between Brembo - Stoptech - AP. My guess is that they all are good ... but AP turned out to be a lot brake for the $$.

Here's a look:

Big brake kit, rear rotors, lines, fluid, tax and installation ... around $2,200.00.

The AP Racing site did not list the mini in its fitment guide. Which kit were you able to fit? Which distributor did you use? I am of course trying to do the impossible and find brakes that will fit under my 16" SSR Comps

FYI - Tar- Ox makes a BBK that will fit under 16" wheels.

ftbt - I am assuming you did not need spacers for the front, correct?

If you looked on AP's site and came up empty-handed, you were probably looking at the "Competition" line rather the "Formula" line. There is a fitment guide for MINIS under the Formula line. The part number of the MINI caliper is: CP7611. If you are in the US, you might want to call Stillen/Brake Pros, the AP distributor in Costa Mesa, California. The number is: 800-431-3373. Mine fit fine with my Team Dynamics Pro Race 1's -w- a 45 mm offset. No spacers needed. There is about a 1/2 inch from the face of the caliper to the wheel.

The AP distributor (Stillen/Brake Pros) gave me the correct rear rotors this afternoon (x drilled and slotted) and they even installed them for me while I waited at no charge. I bedded them in .... and yes .... there is a difference with the whole new front/rear brake set-up! Initial impressions with the whole set-up: Good bite/grip, shorter stopping distances & firmer pedal. I think things will even get a little better when I replace the original pads with some Ferodos. Can't wait to do some serious canyon carving ... last time I did, I experienced the dreaded brake fade ... not a good thing.

when you were doing your research for the BBK. did u find out which type of 17" wheels would fit over each? i read that a +45 offset would work perfect with either the stoptech or the ap racing BBK.

btw, lookin good and where did u get those black lug bolts?

thanks
-chris

I only checked with the wheels that I was going to buy, namely the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1's. What you can do though is to go Stop Tech's site and download the wheel template that they have and use that as your guide. Basically, if the wheels you want will work the Stop Tech kit, then, in all likelihood, they will work with the Brembos.

The car came with the black lug nuts.
