Lub Nuts

I got the wild hair up my *** (insert three letter word beginning with A) to clean and polish the inside of my wheels. After a lot of effort, struggling with extremely tight lug nuts, I managed to remove the LF and complete the process using Wheel Wax and Adams VRT. The wheel looks great.

I then found putting the sucker back so I could insert the lug nuts was a indeed difficult. Each of my 18" wheels weighs 55.6 pounds, and positioning it so the holes lined up properly was nearly impossible. I finally got them in and and hopefully tightened correctly. I then lowered the car to proceed to the RF.

Here is my issue. The lug nuts were so incredibly tight that I was afraid to grunt too hard fearing the wrench slipping and scratching the daylights out of my $1250 wheels. I gave up and plan to go to the dealership to ask for someone to check the torque on each wheel to make sure they are properly tightened.

I cannot imagine having to change a tire out in the wild without the luxury of my clean cement garage floor.

You mean lug bolts, right? If so, there is a special tool that makes this much easier; it it like a long stud, without a head. You thread it into one of the holes and you then 'hang' the wheel on it while you insert the other three lug bolts.

Yes, "Lub"= typo.

I'll look for that tool. Sounds essential. I was thinking I might slightly loosen the nuts while the tire is still fully resting on the floor. Before, I raised it until it was barely touching and that might have caused enough give to prevent the process.

Update:

I man'd up and tackled the project. After seeing the tire needed to be undisturbed while resting on the ground while slightly loosening the nuts, I was able to remove each and clean the wheels. They look wonderful. And, I finally learned that if I got down on the floor I could make the task of lining up the holes to make insertion of the nuts easier.

Be sure to get the correct size; I assume yours takes the 14mm version.

They're not lub NUTS; they're lub BOLTS.
