Tire crazy!! Bbs rs
Tire crazy!! Bbs rs
I'm buying the bbs rs reps 16x7et35 and my car is stock suspension right now. I am going to get coils soon. I have researched and read up a lot. I just can't seem to grasp this whole tire business. One post someone says 205/50 another says 205/45 and another says 215/45. I am running 215/45/17 right now and like it a lot. What do you guys recommend. I. Don't want to rub when I lower the car.
A few things:
Stock size - That is what you have from the factory whether it is 15" or 16" or 17", they are all around 24.3" or so in diameter. One stock size is 205/45 17. Let me stay with 17" for discussion.
You can go to plus sized tires which will be bigger in diameter such as 215/45 17 which is approximately 24.6" in diameter.
205 is 205 MM width of the thread
45 is the aspect ratio (5) or relative height of the tire sidewall or 205x.45 in this case
17 is in inches.
What can do you have? And what do you do with your car? And do you have mods or want mods? That kind of determines a lot of the sizes and types of tires you want.

I have cai, 15% pulley, headers, exhaust, injectors, and tune. I have coils on the way. I don't want a track or race set up with these wheels I want these wheels for aesthetic only. But at the same time I don't want to lose any sort of traction.
So you seem to be have a little more than stock HP. It seems you can run 215 45 17 without issue if you want to stay with your 17" rims. And this will be reasonably comfortable for the street as well. You will get generally good traction with these, perhaps a little less on show since it is wider but that is tire dependent.
That is what I would do with the MCS. If you had a stock MC, I would go with a smaller diameter tire to get a little more acceleration.

With a 35et you're going to want to get a slightly smaller tire width so you don't rub when you drop your car low with the coilovers. Basically what's going to happen is the lower offset of 35et will make your wheels stick out more towards the plastic fender covers. If your tire is really beefy, it will end up rubbing against it. What you're going to effectively want to do for aesthetics is pick up a smaller set of tires so that the tires stretch a bit making the sidewalls sit at an angle rather than straight up towards the fenders.
As a reference - although they're 17", they are the same offset as yours. I went with a 205/40-17 tire for looks and so that it doesn't rub. If you want the same effect on a 16", you're probably going to want to look at 205/45-16.
