Does anyone NOT run TPMS?

Just as the title states, does anyone not run Tire Pressure Monitors? If you don't use them, besides the warning light, is there any other adverse effect?

Personally, I think they're stupid. I'm just wondering if I need to spend that $300 when ordering aftermarket wheels.

Outmotoring has them for $230.

I have heard about people putting all four of the TPMS sensors in one donut spare in the trunk. The car doesn't know the difference. Then you can change wheels and tires as much as you want without buying more sensors.

Or just let the warning light stay on, it is annoying but it doesn't hurt anything.

I ran my '09 Clubman for over a year without them with no adverse effects that I can find. When I put new tires on I went ahead and got the sensors from Tire Rack. The light didn't bother me at all...

Don't forget, '10 and newer cars use a different and more expensive sensor than the '07-'09 cars....

I dont during winter. There is only the warning light, and one 'ding' during ignition

Come summer when I refinish the rims with my TPMS in them im going to remove the sensors and try this out:

That's certainly an interesting approach...

...and early '07 cars have the R53 style system that only monitors tire rotation, versus actual tire pressure via sensors.

I don't understand people who buy $30,000 cars and cheap out on things like this....it's $200. If you can't afford that, maybe you don't need those fancy new wheels?

I didn't install mine till I changed the tires, otherwise I would have gotten them as soon as I put the new wheels on.....

Not currently running them....just recently put some s-lites (no TPMS) on our 07 justa, & of course..just as others stated.."dings" at start up & light stays on...only slightly bothersome.

..I don't really need them...as always checking on tire pressure..fluid levels..etc...(but I can see how they might be a good idea for some long trips)

..my other set of wheels (aftermarkets) must have come with them...I guess?..as they do function...so its possible..? that some aftermarks are ready for cars with TPMS...I didn't even bother to ask when buying because I figured they'd wanna charge me more
...maybe someone who knows for sure will chime in...

Although creative, the question one must ask, is your time and effort in doing this worth a lot less than $200 for a new set?

I agree w/one of the posts above, if you're shelling out close to a thousand bucks for nice aftermarket wheels, why not go the extra 20% and properly install the TPMS in them. For me, I check my pressure very often, but they are still a good indicator of potential problems, just like any other vehicle system warning light or gauge. Just my 2 cents...

Yes $200 is not much for me or for some others, but to each their own. I really like the idea of out smarting a damn nanny device.

yeah i guess the idea of being able to swap wheels to my hearts content is rather appealing. I had 3 sets of wheels this past year. only one had TPMS, and it would have been a PITA to get the sensors out of the ones I sold, likewise a pain to keep purchasing sets.

I understand where you're coming from, I do, but $300 for something that can be done with a $5 tire gauge just pisses me off. It isn't a matter of cheaping out.

Maybe I'll just ask this instead. If I have no intention of using the factory rims, can I just take them off the factory rims and add them to the aftermarkets?

yes you can. I think there are only a few (probably $$$ special) aftermarket rims that they will not fit right in due to sensor clearance, but they will more than likely fit just fine.

Some places will make you buy a rebuild kit, which is just new orings for the new wheels. When I put the sensors in my aftermarkets they didnt, but the car was darned near brand new at the time
