185/55-16 tires on cooper s?

I have a 2009 Cooper S with 17" wheels.

I am looking for a set of lightly used snow tires on rims

I found a set but I'm not sure how they will work on my car.

They are a 185/55-16 off of a Honda Fit. They are on Enkei rims with a 45mm offset.

Any ideas or comments would be appreciated.

You can post here or email me Dirtrider4life112@yahoo.com

Thanks

They are a little short, which isn't ideal for the snow. They should fit though.

Thanks creeve, I was thinking the same thing. I'm just having a tough time finding a decent used set for a good price.

The Honda has a 56.1 mm bore just like the cooper, the 45 mm offset is just right for a MINI, and the 185/55/16
is very close to stock diameter, and narrower than the 205's that are probably on your 17" wheels, which is good
for a snow tire.

The only winter tire I could find on tirerack in that size is a Blizzak with an XL load rating of 87, which is plenty.
Most non-XL tires in that size have a load rating of 83, which is technically less than the 84 that the 17 and 15 inch
MINI approved tires have, but should be fine. It's possible that an **** compulsive person at the tire store could refuse
to sell or mount them, or that someone could refuse to pass state inspection with these on the car, but unlikely,
and you could always just put the 17s back on for that anyway.

They're a little shorter than stock 16 or 17 inch oem wheels/tires, but the same size as the gen one 15 inch or 205/50/16
which are commonly put on 16s. You'd lose less than a quarter inch of ground clearance with these, and the speedometer
should read very close to oem sizes.

Unless there's something weird about the Enkei rims and the MINI caliper clearance (which I doubt),
they should be perfectly good snow tires and rims for an MCS.

You can do a test fit to see if the wheels will clear your front brake calipers- probably they will. The wheel bolt size and hub bore should be OK for the MINI. If it comes with centering rings they will work on the MINI as well.

I have exchanged wheels between the Fit and MINI in the past and it is fine, offset is fine.

185/55-16 is OK. Post edited.

Tire diameter is 24" ((185*0.55*2)/25.4 + 16) for 185/55/16
sidewall is 6.25 mm shorter than 195/55/16 which is stock.
The Bridgestone Blizzak WS60 in that size has a load rating of 87, and
the others (non snow tires) are 83.
205/45/17 and 175/65/15 are 84, and 195/55/16 is 87.

The 185/55/15 tires are 23" and load rating of 82 (a few are only 81). Were you looking at the 15s, Minihune?

Opps, I see it was 185/55-16 not 15.

For the MINI 185/55-16 is OK.

should work fine as long as the load rating on the tires is good. Not sure what that magic number is.

Load rating is a funny thing. Ask almost anyone and they will tell you 84 minimum. Yet the 2010 manual lists approved ratings as low as 82 for the Hardtop, S, JCW, and all three versions of the Convertible in the tire inflation section.
