tire mounting recommendations

I've got new tires to mount up to my summer wheels and am looking for some place to mount them that will not damage the newly reconditioned rims. Local NTB type places just seem to butcher rims

Any suggestions for installers that care? Looking north west of Boston

thanks

1st question would be where are you? Have you looked at Tirerack installers in your area as they usually have the better equipment as they have to send model numbers and pictures of equipment to Tirerack before they become installers.

I'm in a battle right now with a tirerack recommended installer for butchering my wheels.

Take your car to Greasy's Garage in Worcester. Pete is awesome and won't damage your wheels.

Trust me, you won't be disappointed and this is what I should have done in the first place.

Wow I guess that I'm lucky as I have two local installers for tirerack and both do a great job. I do prefer one over the other however have never had a rim damaged at either place with several installs done. Greasy's would be a little far and where as I have Custom Mini Shop who stocks, sells and installs Mini parts and accessories in Central California. Custom Mini Shop is also going to be at AMVIV doing installs and selling MOD's again this year.

Ah, that sounds good - I've been to him before for the one-ball mod but didn't know he had mounting equipment. Thanks

For tire mounting and related deals he uses Kurata's who is a tirerack installer in Fresno. If he can't do the job he has a network of people who do quality work at extremely reasonable prices.

I work part time at a tire-chain store, and it all comes down to the individual that is doing the work... Whether it's an independent shop or a nation-wide chain, spend some time IN PERSON checking out the shop and personnel. If there is a fellow car-enthusiast that works there with a nice car and aftermarket wheels in the parking lot, even better. Ask them ahead of time what steps they take to prevent damage to the wheels, and what recourse would you have if they became damaged? Some of the low profile tires are very difficult, especially runflats, so ask if they are comfortable working with those types of tires.

AMEN

The best shop experience I've had was a small shop where the owner INVITED me to stand beside him as he did the work . . . and then asked if he could teach a new employee under his close supervision with me standing there . . . .

Lots of places will wave an insurance liability card as to why you can't go into the garage; and the kid they hired yesterday is the one running the tire mounting machine. Now, if they won't let me go in there and watch, I look for another shop.

TireRack recommendations is a STARTING POINT but asking fellow car nuts in town is a better course. Go to a couple of car shows and look for the guys with huge wide tires or super low profile tires and ask where they get THEIR's mounted.

I drive 100 miles each way to get tires mounted on my 79's 10" diameter rims.
