Busted Rim?

So I hit a huge pothole her in NJ. Its a horrible place to live so stay away if you were thinking about it. and if you do live here, 287S mile marker 13 right lane, STAY AWAY!!!

Anyway, the rim cracked, but because of the run flats i was able to drive home slowly. so i have 17" rims mounted with Blizzaks LM25's. So I just ordered a new rim off of ebay but my question was what do you all think about the tire? Do you think its shot also or do you think its still good? Replacing the tire I run in to having 1 new tire with 3 tires that a 3 years old.

I was also thinking of mounting my 17's with Summer tires and getting winter tires for my 16's eventually, so it doesnt make sense to for me to buy a new winter tire. I dont want to spend a ton of money right now. BTW, i know, its backwards, I bought the car with 16" all seasons and later bought a used set of 17's that were already mounted with the winters and they were in really good shape.

Thanks for your replies.

How far did you drive on the flat tire, and at what speed?

about 5 miles at around 30 mph. the tire looks fine, i dont see a bubble or anything. im assuming the tire is flat btw. im gonna go out in about 5 minutes and check.

and i just opened the hood and it looks like the bracket the holds the headlight in place broke too. i cant believe it.

also, i looked on tirerack and discount tire and it looks like noone has the 17 inch blizzak in stock.

just checked--tire is full. does that mean the tire is fine?

Tire could be just fine, but like others will say... You wanna risk finding out otherwise!? I'd be more concerned about your suspension and alignment.

I did something similar to this too. I was turning right on red and since my aftermarket rims are made of aluminum they are a soft metal. Went up on the curb and the side of the curb snagged the rim and punctured the tire all at the same time! very unfortunate

I would replace the tire. It's not worth the risk. You never know what kind of damage was done in the inner structure of the tire. You could be riding on borrowed time sitting on a ticking time bomb. Remember to replace tires by the pair.

I live in the NY/NJ area and 2 weeks ago I hit a pretty big pothole. But the car felt fine. No vibrations not misaligned, nothing. Wow. cool luck me!!

So a week later I take a much closer look at the tire which is a non run flat tire and I have a bubble in the side wall. So I immediately go and order 2 new tires from DiscountTire.com which is where I got my tires from. And along the way drove another 550 miles to Boston, around Boston and back home while on a business trip. Not a great idea but i was fine.

Yesterday I went to my local mechanic to have the tires changed. He told me the inside of the rim is bent but not too bad as it balanced out to zero.

Bottom line is that these cars have performance minded wheels and tires on them even aftermarket rims. So be careful out there.
