A question about tires
I've had my 5-spd MC for about 2.5 months, and I've started thinking about a nice set of tires to replace my Goodyear 195/55 16" run-flats. I've done extensive research on tirerack.com, and have settled on Pirelli PZero Nero's, 205/50 16". I was wondering how they compare to my run-flats in terms of ride comfort, noise, grip, cornering, and wet traction.
Thanks!

Your getting a much better, smoother ride, not needing runflat technoligy. Steering and cornering will be a bit shaper with Nero, and concideribly better water treaction day 1! Good choice, unless you run regular track days.

Thanks, Alex! No, I don't go to any tracks, I just wanted a nice performance tire, and I read some reviews on TireRack saying how the Neros had great road manners. However, the tests were VS other Max Performance tires, and I didn't know what category my Goodyear run-flats fell into.
I didn't know that the Neros will be better in the wet, now I really am looking forward to them! My only concern before was how they would do in the rain.

Hey Zeede !
Did you consider the Goodyear Eagel F1 GS-D3 that that Alex also carries? Check out their performance numbers and the customer reviews at the Tire Rack website. You just might switch from the Nero's. I was considering them too, but the superior wet weather grip of the Goodyears was a big factor for me. I know in So. Calif (where I grew up) rain isn't too big a consideration. But here in Texas we sometimes get buckets of it all at once, sometimes so heavy that one almost has to pull over on the freeway until is slackens off. With such occasional gully washers, I wanted VERY good rain performance and NO hydroplaning tendancies.
Just passing my thoughts on to you. Hope it helps.
Joe
Hehe, I have to say that the Goodyear F1's have very uh...interesting treads. Yeah, the wet traction is superior, but I live and work in Los Angeles, and as you well know, summer tires are just fine year-round in sunny SoCal
Once winter gets in full gear and we start seeing some rain I guess I'll find out how good the wet traction is on my Goodyear run-flats. If they aren't good enough, at least I know that my next set of tires will have better wet performance, hehe.
I guess some people are very sensitive to bumps in the road, because w/ 16" runflats and the Sports Suspension Plus I think the ride quality is fine. For me though, I love listening to music while I motor around Los Angeles, so I wanted to avoid tires like Kumho that seem to be on the loud side.

Nero is ultra high performance, the Goodyear OE's are Performance all season. You'll gain more ride comfort, better wet traction, and a bit quieter.
D3's rock, but I dont think you'll drive agressivly enough to fully utilize them!

Here's the results from a recently started poll on 205/50-16 tires
The 215/45-16 Falken Azenis Sport tires pictured in the previous post are also popular.

My dealer told me not to rotate the stock runflat Pirelli 17inch tires, but to replace the tires as they wear out. Obviously the front will wear out first before the Overseas customers dont rotate their tires.
Is he full of BS?

Yes he is full of BS. The 17" Pirelli runflats are not dircctional so, not only can you rotate, I rotated fronts to rear, crossed rears to front. I did it at 1500 miles only because I was changing to EBC Greenstuff brake pads and had the car up on jack stands anyway and thought "What the Hell". If other tires are directional, you can still rotate fronts to rear.
Ijust wanted to chime in on the Goodyear Eagle F1 DS3 I have them and I love them. Very good wet and dry traction. I have about 12,000 miles on them and they look good for another 12k or so. Best tires I have ever had in my 30 years of driving!
