Bent rim (kinda)

I have 17" Web Spokes/webspokes, and hit a monster pothole this afternoon. I fully expected the tire pressure light to come on, but it didn't... but I wasn't out of the woods. When I stopped, I looked and saw this:

It didn't lose any pressure, and didn't feel any different driving it. In the picture you can't see it, but the chrome ring is not only bent, but the ring is cracked, and pulled away from the main rim.
My question is:
Do I need to get a whole new rim, or can I just replace the chrome ring around the main rim?

I think that "chrome ring" actually *is* the main part of the rim.

The R98 "Webspokes" are two-piece rims. There's the main "barrel" and then the center piece with all the spokes, lug bolt holes etcetera. The two pieces are held together by the 14 titanium bolts you see around the perimeter. The piece that's bent so badly and has started to tear away is the outer lip of the main barrel.

Frankly, I'm amazed the wheel/tire is still holding air.

Me too? but it looks like the bead isn't damaged, just the chrome ring. I thought the chrome ring was seperate based on this post:

i think its still part of 'piece 2' its just machined. otherwise even on that other post, i dont see how this 'ring' would attach as well as the front face

Yep it's pretty FUBAR. That "outter ring" is acutally 1 piece just machined shiny as stated above. The center is the second part in the 2 piece design.
Time to buy a new one (or good used). Sorry.

Wierd how it ripped free from the main hub right around that bolt - that's what made me think it was an extra seperate ring.

We have a few local shops that can repair "serious" damage. It is always worth asking a shop if it is worthwhile. Your idea of "toast" may be very fixable to them.

Exactly - I coulda lost ALL the air in the tire & been stuck there....I coulda had tire failure causing loss of control or damage to the car body....

As I've said before: for exactly what happened, this was an acceptable outcome.
