Big Mistake: shopping at wheelsnext.com
Big Mistake: shopping at wheelsnext.com
This is long, but please read. 3 weeks ago I bit the bullet and bought 16in. RPF1's. Wheelsnext.com was the only place I found that featured those wheels with the tires I wanted. So I placed my order and immediately recieved an email stating I will get a phone call within 24 hours to confirm the details of said order. 3 days go by and nothing. I call them and get told "Oh, yes, we have your order. It's been confirmed and processed." A week goes by (which to me is standard turn around time for wheels) and not even a call, much less a tracking number. I call again and now get told "We had to special order them Enkei. We'll have them in a day, 2 at the most and we'll let you know". Another 3 days and nothing. I call again and get told "We'll have them by Friday and will ship ASAP". Good, finally some headway. So, I expect a tracking number to be emailed. Nope. Gotta call and get that, too. So, with a tracking number in my hand Monday, I get told today was the delivery date. Sure enough, FedEx pulls in at about 9:00am and I'm on my way. Or so I thought. I open the first 2 boxes and the weights are all screwed up. Half of them are jingling around in the boxes. You gotta be kidding me. So I call them raising all kinds of Hell and eventually after getting hung up on 3 times, find out I have to pay out of pocket then get reimbursed after I fax them my bill. I know it's going to have 2 select words on the bottom of the bill in big letters. **** YOU.
Sorry you had a bad experience with them. I had a really good one when I got my wheels there.
The WheelsNext exchange policy says they will pay 100% for exchanging damaged wheels so if everything you stated is correct. I would try nicely to pressure them about prepaying the return shipping because their policy does not state that the customer must prepay for the return.
The "It was damaged in shipping" Exchange - NO COST
All orders processed by WheelsNEXT must follow a strict quality assurance process that is part of the overall WheelsNEXT Best Practices Manual. Part of the Best Practices is how we protect your shipment. All Wheel + Tire Combos are first wrapped in a protective stretch wrap with multiple cardboard discs. Then each Combo is placed in a think double-walled cardboard box, and more cardboard is used to fill in any gaps to ensure that there is no wiggle room for the product and to add extra protection. This box is then finally sealed with an industrial staple machine to ensure a secure box closure.
With so much protection damage is not an issue. In the rare occasion that your order does get damaged during shipping, though, WheelsNEXT will pay 100% of the costs to exchange your damaged product and send you out a new product. As soon as you notice the damage contact our Customer Service Department. You will be asked to e-mail a picture of the damage and then your new order will be shipped as soon as the damaged product arrives at the WheelsNEXT facility. Save all packaging material for FedEx carrier inspection. The FedEx carrier will then pick up and inspect the damaged merchandise to return to WheelsNEXT.
TIMING: If your shipment has arrived damaged, you must contact the WheelsNEXT Customer Service Department within 48 hours of receipt to report the damage.

Nothing was damaged, though, that's the thing. It's just that the wheel weights were rolling around in the boxes like they were never put on correctly. I had to have these special ordered so even if they were damaged, I'd probably get hit for a restocking fee. Luckily, there's an independent garage literally 150 feet from my house and he's gonna rebalance the 2 that are missing the weights.
Man he sure can hold is breathe
Annoying for sure, but pay the $40 or w/e it'll cost to get them balanced and call it a day. Not worth the hassle of dealing with them...

ditto
Same here with my set last year.....had to have 3 wheels re-weighted and balanced locally. I was disgusted and wanted to get on the road, so I just paid for it and did not contact them. Last order with them, for sure.

I'd like to have them balanced when I purchase. Looks like wheelsnext does that, my only concern is the TPMS we have on our wheels. ..I notice that Tirerack installs the TPMS, whereas wheelsnext makes no mention of it. I may have to call them and find out.
I actually wanted the tires I got. They happen to be your forementioned Nitto Neo Gens. As far as that goes, combined with the RPF1's, it's night and day. What would have gone with? A note, I'm in PA and they have to deal with hot, cold, rain, wet leaves, gravel and PA's horrific road conditions.

wheelsnext doesn't exactly have the best service. I've read many horror stories on all of the various car forums about dealings with them.
My 20" two piece OZ Michelangelo II arrived from Tire Rack with a broken center cap and loose stick on weights. Clearly, Fedex dropped the ball....err....wheel. Emailed Alex, he told me to get it rebalanced and send him the bill. I had Costco do it...they were nice enough to do it gratis. I let Alex know and also asked him about the caps and whether the carbon fiber ones fit...he said they did. What do you know? Guess what showed up the next day? A set of four new CF caps, no charge.
A few takeaways....TR does rock. Being nice helps. Yes, it's quite normal for you to pay for the fix and get reuimbursed (my buddy had to do the same with a set from Discount Tire).

What wheels are you looking for? Can they be found elsewhere?
Konig Runaway's
w/ Yokohama Parada Spec 2's.
Tirerack doesn't have the Konig's. They have OZ's and Enkei's that are close in style, yet a lot more money than the Konig's. Plus I think the Konig Runaways are a little more unique.
If anyone has suggestions as to where I can get them please let me know,
OMG good luck getting the correct lug bolt. I had a hard time finding out the correct name & size of the ones I needed for my aftermarket wheels. The MINI doesn't have a lug bolt like most cars & of course I could not find them locally & no one knew exactly what the MINI in conjunction with my wheel required. It has a long screwlike thing that screws into a hole & my OEM ones would not work with my aftermarket wheels. The wheel seller should be able to tell you exactly what you need though. I advise writing all that info down & putting it in a safe place because it took me forever to get the correct info when I went to replace my bolts last month. Mine are called locking bolts & they have a conical seat & they are 12.5 x 1.5 & 2.22 x 1.1"
but yours will be different probably
Also ask if you will need hubcentric rings so they can ship them with the wheels. I needed them but I had to drive around with the wheel shimmy for a few days after having my wheels installed waiting for them to be shipped. Just trying to save you my pain

If you haven't all ready found out Discount Tire does not have a TPMS sensor for our cars. Just talked to them a couple of days ago. Tire Rack sells the tpms sensors with the valve stem for $189.
Hmmm, I ordered my tires + wheels from Discount Tire, they don't carry the TPMS sensors, yet they told me they'd order a set and install them for me. I told them Tirerack carried them for $189 and they said they'd match that price.
Hub-centric rings... oh man, wonder if I need those? How will I know?
Ordering custom wheels isn't so easy!!! There's the TPMS fiasco, hub-centric rings, non-standard lug nuts, ...what else??? LOL
