Offset for 18 x 7.5 rims or 17 x 7

Hello everyone! I ordered my '08MCS last week, unfortunately it won't be here until June. I'm keeping it ( haven't named her yet) stock except the for the rims. I'm looking for 18 x 7.5 or 17 x 7 rims. Let's say I'll be putting 205/35/18 or 205/40/17 don't know what brand yet. Maybe my first question should be will this work? Thank you!!!!

They'll both work, but you'll want at LEAST a 215/35/18 for the 18x7.5, you could also do 205/40/18 or 215/40/18 with no issues. Offset, something around an ET42.

For the 17x7 you could run a 205/40/17 or a 215/40/17. Offset, same thing, like an ET42 is nice. You're going to want to lower the car with either set of wheels/tires as the R56 rides HIGH.

Thank you Wake. How much would I have to lower it? As you can see I don't know much.

Eye of the beholder really, whatever YOU think looks good.

I'm partial to a nice slammed/tucked ride, so I'd say coilovers. However, that's not necessary, you can get say H&R springs and be fine. Those offer a good drop. Also, for the 17s I'd consider a 205/45 to help fill out the wheel well.

I would really try to find a nice 18 inch wheel for the R56 for the reason of HUGE wheel wells. If you need any help don't hesitate to PM me. Just let me know what style wheel you're after and the budget you have in mind and I'll help you out.

What's the widest tire that can fit on an 18x7.5 and not cause rubbing issues (assume using coilovers as well).

Oops sorry. Forgot that. Et 35 or 42
I've read on another thread that 42 with an 18x7.5 and coilovers will not clear the struts without spacers. And I don't even know if 35 is even possible on the Mini??

Just to keep on the safe side, 215/35/18. If you lower, I'd expect no rub, if you stay at stock height the et 35 may rub a bit on the outside bumper brackets. Easy fix, and they will rub themselves clear if nothing is done.

Et42 on 7.5's is a better fit in my opinion.

See my post above. Someone reported a problem with the clearing the strut with an 18x7.5 and et42.

On my R53, My eighteens are a 18x7.5 with a 42 offset. I'm pretty low on coilovers and have 0 issues with my car ! I would think that with the R56, there is a little more room to play with !
