Do the wheels themselves have 14mm holes, if not then your going to have to bore out the wheels to make the lug fit

Just as a clarification, the size of the bolt *holes* in the stock wheels never changed - they've always been ~16mm, so all of the stock MINI wheels will work with either the 14mm bolts or the 12mm bolts.

Alpha's correct that you should check the holes in your Rota wheels, though. If your 14mm lugs won't fit, you'll either need to bore out the holes in the wheels, or install a 14mm -> 12mm conversion lug kit on your car (that's what I did).

I was told that it works with the new mini, but if my lug heads are tight going into the lug holes I should get a smaller style lug.

No, because if you do, the lug won't fit the hub because it's too small, I've never had experience with the lug conversion 14mm to 12mm kit, but some have on here, another alternative is to bore out the wheels, which isn't cheap, if you want it done right, but you might be lucky and the Rota come at a 14mm!

I would just first off see if the bolts would fit the Rota, or give Rota a call to see what size lug holes they use, maybe ask another NAM'er with a R56 with the similar style Rota to ask how they mounted it. If you find out the lugs don't fit the holes of the Rota, then you can consider the lug conversion, or you can also look into having the holes of the Rota bored out, I hope I cleared this up!

Yeah, I was kind of hoping to get all my ducks in a row before the rims showed up. I still have to take the rims to a tire shop and have them mounted, etc.

For this conversion, we are talking about studs that go from 14 mm to an out put of 12 mm right? Not replacing 14 mm hubs with 12 mm hubs >_<;

Who sells this conversion?

Yes, the studs are 14mm where they enter the hub, and then neck down to 12mm to pass through the wheels. I got mine from Texas Speedwerks. I don't think anyone else sells them, but I may be mistaken.

Is there any down side to just getting the conversion kit? Would it make it easier every time I shop for rims?

The conversion kit costs more than having one set of wheels professionally drilled out (but less than having *two* sets drilled out). Of course, if you're comfortable drilling the wheels yourself, you could just buy whatever wheels you like and then drill them if needed, so the expense of the conversion kit might not be worth it to you.

The conversion kit makes it easier to select aftermarket wheels, since virtually every wheel out there will work with 12mm studs. It also makes it easier to physically swap out the wheels, since you can hang the wheel off of the studs, rather than having to hold it up to the hub while you get the holes to align.

One potential drawback is that the TSW conversion kit is for functionality, not bling, so you will get a little bit of surface rust on the black-oxide coating. It doesn't affect their function, but if you're the kind to be bothered by that kind of thing, then it'll bother you.

I've been very happy with the conversion studs on my car, and would do it again in a heartbeat.
