Ready to lower the Mini..advice please

OK..I am now at the point where my next step is to drop it....I have at set of aftermarket wheels ( ASAJH6) 17 x 7 with an offset of 42mm, I am running 215 45 17 tires...would like to drop this about 1" using TSW springs or possibly other but looking for a 1" drop, no more....anybody have a similar setup ? any rubbing issues..and do you think I need adjustable rear lower links ?

Any recommendation on the links ? want something that is quiet so probably urethane bushings and what is the lightest ? I have heard good thing about Hsport or Webb

thanks

Gary

I had H-sport springs with 1" drop in front and rear with stock shocks, mounted 17x7 rims with +42mm offset, got rubbing in the rears due to wider and taller 215/45-17 tires. You can either trim the inner wheel arch plastic or install rear lower adjustable control arms or both (most likely). More rear negative camber helps with clearance likely you'll need about -1.6 degrees or more. Your year MINI doesn't have built in stock rear adjusters so you cannot easily get more rear negative camber without adding the upgrade lower control arms.

Weight is not that big a deal for two lower control arms but small and thin design is going to give you less weight. Urethane bushings are ok and H-sport is about the same weight as stock.

1" drop is likely enough, you might consider upgrading the stock shocks at the same time depending on your needs and the wear on your 2003 stock shocks. If you have about 50,000 miles wear on the shocks then replace them with better shocks- maybe Koni Yellows, they will work with lowering springs OK and you can adjust them a little front and rear (rears harder to change adjustment).

Try finding other MINI drivers in your area with similar wheel and suspension setup to find out about their clearance and need for trimming or camber adjustment.

You other option is to use tires that are stock 205/45-17 or smaller
205/40-17 or 215/40-17 just watch the load rating, look for 84 or more.
40 series sidewalls are stiff and less comfortable but handle well. Don't hit any potholes.
