I love the way these wheels look but...

they are just too damn expensive.

I just placed an order to replace my 02 Cooper. I'm looking for something like the JCW R105s but would like them to be 17" and not $700+ a piece. Of course, the lighter the better.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Questions?

I'm guessing you know about tire rack, edge racing and the like? I just did 18s, lost 6 lbs per corner from the stock 16s and spent $700 total. Not the exact wheel I was looking for and was worried about the ride, but was pleasently surprised by the softer ride.

I agree with you about the look, but that's how I compromised. I mean after the focals, H&Rs, and the 22 rear sway, something had to give.....

I've checked Tire Rack. Nothing there I love. Maybe somone from Tire Rack has a suggestion? I'll check Edge Racing.

Hey Stlmini,

not the answer you'd expect, but... I'd spend the $700 on four 10" revolutions for your classic and run OEM's on the new one. You'd be money ahead!

just teasing

Just remember if you did buy those rims you'd have buy new springs also to lower it. Mine has the black 18's and the mini almost looks like a 4x4

I wouldn't consider it a compromise to lose 6 lbs per corner regardless of the look.

STL- check around your local tire store. that kind of design is not
that unusual to find. probably not exactly the same, but similar enough
and cheap.

Try these, Team Dynamic 17 by 7 in black or silver. About $128 each.

Discount Tire Direct

Try Discount Tire Direct. The have Koenig Britelites or Litebrites. I don't remember the exact name. They have a machined face with black inside the spokes like you picture. They were $100 to $120 if my memory is working. The spokes aren't as curved as the ones you show. Again from memory, I think they were a resonable rate and the offset was 42. See what you think.

Here is a photo of the Bitelites:

or these (they also come in silver)

Both are a decent, light wheels at affordable prices.

Also try the 4x100 classifieds over at www.vwvortex.com, you'll fnd some interesting items over there - the wheel you pictured looks like an older Enkei design if I remember correctly... there are also Porsche phonedials and 944 wheels that look great on the Mini with adaptors (but weigh a ton). eBay also has a few, but be wary there. That is one impressive list by Sandtoast, though!

Thats the problem with this whole thing. You can end you researching yourself to death. I like to call it paralysis by analyisis. I have been wanting to buy a new mini for 5 months......but I can't decide on a color....... I must have tried ever combo possible 20 times. When I finally do order it will take me another 6 months to pick wheels. AAGGGH
