OK, one last question for you Ryephile:

In the Helix post that popped to the top of the forun today, this comment jumped out at me: "The biggest problem was fitting the stock swaybar drop links. With the new angles of the subframe, it looks like lowered cars will have an issue of the drop link smashing against the lower control arms."

Granted they were installing the Helix coilover setup from an R53 into their R56, but as you can imagine it still raised some concerns. I would imagine that H&R would check their stuff out before releasing to the public, but... just for my peace of mind: Have you seen any evidence of the H&R springs allowing the drop link and lower control arms to come in contact with each other?

Not sure what Helix is talking about has anything to do with "just" lowering springs. If the stock suspension bottoms out, it doesn't matter if it has stock springs or aftermarket, it's bottomed out. With a coilover, the position of the R53 drop link on the shock body is probably different than the R56, hence the drop link tweak needed. If you're planning on using R53 stuff, keep an eye out for small tweaks like that, otherwise, no concern needed.

Any one know if these are the same springs that you guys are talking about from the UK?

hanswag123: Just my two cents I have had the H&R's on both the R53 and the R56 (the ALTA springs for the R53 were an Adam revised H&R made by H&r) I got to tell you, you will love them! Period hands down! Let me know if I can ever help. Plus the DIY above is nearly identical for the R53, hope that helps as well. Thanks!

I asked this in the "Howard get's dropped" thread as well but.......

When you guys installed the springs did you find that the front sway bar endlinks were long enough that the sway bar mount was still parallel to the endlink rod or are adjustable (longer) end links necessary ?

Matt. Everything bolted back together fine. The end of the swaybar(where the link attaches) is pretty much centered between the lower control arm and the inner wheel house lip, with no possible way for it to come in contact with either part. Hope this answers your question.

Thanks snkbte. It's good to know the clearance is good since that was my biggest concern.

What I'm also curious about is; Since the coilover assembly is going to sit deeper in the tower because of the shorter coil spring and because one end of the link connects to it (the assembly) and the other to the sway bar end isn't this going to decrease the amount of downward pressure (preload) on the sway bar and therefore it's effectiveness ? If this is the case, is the decrease in the sway bar's effectiveness noticeable or so little it's not worth worrying about?

Although my background is in mechanics I don't have any experience with lowering cars with coilovers so sorry if this question(s) seems elementary.

Sure... theres Eibach, and H-Sport... and M7 tuning carries some (though I'm not sure if they're making them, or re-branding or someone elses springs). Webb Motorsports and Alta both carry the H&Rs... I'm sure there are more out threre, too.

I have not seen anything for sale at this time except for H&R's. Where are you finding H-sports and Eibachs for sale?
