M7 Coilover question??

There are rules for this thread!! Question and answer only!! No turning this thread into a fiasco like the other thread. If don't don't like what M7 is doing then go home?

My question is: Are the shock cartriges replaceable? If yes, how much?

Thanks M7 for all your hard work!!!

Thanks for a fresh start. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts . Yes the cartridges are replaceable. I will get a price on that for you as soon as I can .I have a several hundred street and canyon miles on them so far and I am VERY pleased. I have a track event coming up shortly to get some personal track miles and will see if what we have been told will prove true. So far so good .

I thought I had some when they were just in the box but I can not seem to locate them at the moment. If I can't find those we will take some photos of the first ones as they arrive . I will also keep my cam around when I have the car up on the lift next time and try to take some better ones than these .

Hi Randy!

I have a question for you. I remember reading on the other thread that you are running the fronts a lot softer then the rear. On this thread it looks like your using an H-sport comp. bar set in the middle position. I think most people who buy coilovers are going to use some kind of stiffer rear bar. If that is the case would it be better for these coilovers to come set from the factory to run the same settings front to rear to give balanced handling instead of having to run the fronts much softer? Then for those people who don't have a stiffer rear bar it would give them the choice to run the fronts softer in order to balance out the understeer. As is if you don't have a stiffer rear bar im thinking you might not be able to set the fronts soft enough and the rears stiff enough to achieve a good balance. I hope that makes sense. Are you going to the breakfast tomorrow morning?
Talk to you soon,

Who is the manufacturer? If hints hadn't been dropped by M7, I probably wouldn't even think to ask. But since they were...

I do not have personal experience with the PSS'9 setup as I have only had KW's and two different version of the LEDA product on my car. Dave at DDM has had a lot of experience with the PSS9 and verbally communicated quite a favorable comparison. Perhaps you could PM him for some input. I will post his response to some other brands which he posted in a different thread to hopefully give you a bit more insight.

I have also had a chance to drive a car with the new M7 coilovers. Wayland from Way Motorworks installed one of the first sets here at our shop several weeks back now. Since developing the DDM62 kit I have had the chance to drive several different MINI suspension options on the prototype cars we have been installing kits on, and until this point none of the cars I have drove have really impressed me suspension wise. Many have been harsh or under damped for the springs being used.

After setting up Miata's and installing many sets of Ohlins on Miata's and having them on my daily driver, my expectations for suspensions are pretty high. I am not saying that the new M7 coilovers are on the same level as Ohlins that cost a lot more, however they would definately be the choice I would go with on any MINI. The M7 coilovers have been the first set of coilovers on a MINI that I have driven that feel like the spring rates and dampers are actually matched to each other. The new coilovers felt controlled and firm without being harsh, just like a good coilover set-up should feel. Unfortunately I did not get a lot of time to really test out the new suspension, but it left me with a very positive impression, and I am looking forward to installing another set. For the price it is definately one of the best buys out there going for a coilover set-up that I have driven on a MINI. I wish Peter best of luck with this great new suspension and for offering a coilover that performs really well for a reasonable price.

The setting I use is a personal one and I do not know if it would be to other peoples liking. I basically run the back 50 % stiffer than the front and move both accordingly depending on what I am doing with the car. I just always maintain that split. For example canyon 13 in the rear and 5 in the front is working well. For the track next week I will go to 15 and 6 and see how that works . My car is also different than most as with rare exception I have about 90 lbs of audio in the rear . I usually take it out for track events but I have run it complete as well. I will be at the Malibu breakfast tomorrow morning and we can chat more about it.

As per rules of the thread from the OP above, the following posters will need to restate their posts. Please phrase your answers in a form of a question.

The following post is yet to be answered, even though properly posted as per rules stated above:

And just so I also comply with the rules, I would also like to know who the manufacturer is. I also think that potential interested parties would like to know what kind of warranty these come with. So my questions are:

1. Who is the manufacturer?
2. What kind of warranty is offered on these coilovers?

Todd I would be happy to give you a demo , both a ride and show you how easy it is to make the suspension changes. I will be going out to a Euro meet in Northridge tonight , California Speedway on sat doing some track testing and then at Village Coffe roaster on Sunday. If any of this works for you let me know, if not I will set something up at your convenience. Give me a call .

I am not moderating. Just pointing out the obvious. Did you have a question for the M7 guys?

Ahhh...

Question, sure:

M7, I understand Way is about to recieve several of the first production run so I assume testing has been successful. As another Hoosier in the throws of a snowy winter, how was the climate testing done and where? My biggest worry is how the product will hold up over time, climate extremes, and lots of mileage. Is there a rebuild warranty?

Before anyone signs on the dotted line to purchase these there will be a firm warranty but for now I can give you a few details. The bottom line is we will be matching the industry standards with regards to warranty. The warranty period will be one year from date of sale. The shocks are rebuild able and we plan on having a variety of springs etc. available for further customization. I think one of the things that you being in the snow country will appreciate is the boot that the shock tube is protected by. Some of the more expensive units I have seen do not go to those lengths. I spent a few more days working with them and they are doing nothing but getting better. I have a track event scheduled for Sat so we shall see how they compare to the last time I was there. More details to follow as I get them myself. Thank you for the question.

Spent some quality time with the new coilovers on the infield road course at California Speedway this weekend and I was very happy with the results.Unfortunatly the track layout was not the same as when i was there last so I could not compare lap times . I set the car up on the firm side, not fully firm, and found that it was very easy to rotate the back end when necessary and keep the dreaded push to a absolute minimum. The one really big difference between these and my former set up was when hitting the apex curbs on the track the car was not bounced around at all and I was able to keep my line. Whatever mechanism allows these to suck up sharp jolts like these curbs, or railroad crossings as another example, is really doing the job. Even with the car lowered it feels as if there is more than enough travel. As soon as our first shipment hits the streets I hope others will be as impressed with them as I am at this point.

Thanks for finding these . I knew I put pics up somehere Keep in mind that the shock shaft is almost as wide as that dust cover. It is one stout unit.

A picture is worth a thousand words Here is a shot with the dust cover lifted.
