Tips on fixing a very slight mushrooming of my strut towers

I am planning on fixing the strut towers on my MINI. I installed my m7 strut brace and found out that I have 1-2 mm deflection of strut towers. I was able to torque the bolts to the proper 25 ft lbs but I wanted to fix the problem before I finally install this brace and plates.

I would appreciate any tips from you folks that have done this fix. Stonger camber plates are next when I update the suspension.

Thanks all!

Awww Yea!!! I used to refer to that as "BF & I". (Brute Force and Ignorance) It either fixes or eliminates the problem.

My M7 strut tower plates came with directions saying to do it. I had minor mushrooming, but the passenger side was obvious (esp. after fitting the plates and seeing them move). Jack up the front of the car to relieve things, and then hammer away. When the plates sit without any play, you're flat. *shrug* Cheap and easy. Relieves tension too!

While on the subject...

Because I'm new (i.e. a dumb ***) can the M7 strut tower brace and the strut tower reinforcement plates be used in conjuntion or do tyou install one or the other?

Mr. Normal,
You can use plates sold by M7 alone or with the brace. The machining on the plates with and without the brace is different, so you wouldn't buy the plates now and add the brace later. You'd either buy the plate kit or the brace kit (which includes the necessary plates). You can see photos and pricing at the M7 web page (http://m7tuning.com/main.m7/store)

Thanks Bilie!

I was, obviously, unsure what the deal was. I was planning a strut brace, so problem solved. M7 isn't too far away from me, so I make take side trip next time I'm up that way.

Thanks again.

PS Morini, as in Moto Morini?

Some not so gentle persuasion with a hammer and solid piece of wodd will take care of the issue. Just do repeated hits until it is back to flat again. If you have some sort of top plate IE: the m7 plates , you can check to see how you are coming along. Not a tough job, just take your time.

Well, you want to be careful in the application of hammer blows to the 2x4. Otherwise, you could have a case of reverse mushrooming.... Using the SR plate as a template is a good idea.
