NEW COILOVERS on the HORIZON!

Well, my suspension is currently being designed by ZZYZXMotorsports.com. They expect to have them finished sometime at the end of January. Below shows the quality of product that they are going to produce, they are currently running a batch of WRX/EVO Coilovers. I'll post pics of the Mini Cooper Coilovers as they unfold........... Man, I can't wait!!! Below is their email to me with tons of pics and such so you can see the process and quality...............................

Hey Guys,

To all who are / may be interested in what we're up to right
now. I've included all the soon to be owners and a number of
others who might be interested in some cool pics.

Just wanted to give you a peek at our current production run
of Zzyzx Motorsports coilovers. Things are progressing as
expected. I've been taking pics along the way so I could
give you all the opportunity to see what your (for those of
you who are in this run...) suspension parts looks like as
they go through the machining process.

Once I can take a breather, I plan to put a page up on the
website that goes into this in more detail.

^ On the left the slots on these lower flanges have been
machined to final ID, on the right, they still need to be
machined to final ID.

^ Strut housings. Note the fully threaded outer, and the
threaded ends. The end caps screw into each end and securely
located/hold the Koni shock.

^ The outer shoulders have been machined to final angle.

http://zzyzxmotorsports.com/pics/2006/20061215/pic4.jpg

^ The right side of these '05 Subaru flanges have been
machined to final profile and include the holes and counter
bores.

http://zzyzxmotorsports.com/pics/2006/20061215/pic6.jpg

^ The right side of these rear Subaru flanges have been
machined to final profile. Note the extended length for
additional tire/strut clearance.

http://zzyzxmotorsports.com/pics/2006/20061215/pic7.jpg

^ This pics shows flanges in various stages of the process.

http://zzyzxmotorsports.com/pics/2006/20061215/vid1.wmv

^ And last but not least, a video of the CNC mill cutting
the profile of a '05 Subaru flange. It's cutting the
right-hand side of the profile.

After the flanges are finished, then are completely deburred
and sent to the polisher. After polishing, they are take to
have a transparent (and very tough) heat-treated clear coat
put on them. Of course, they end up mirror-like in
appearance once finished.

ZZYZX Uses Koni Racing Shocks, not sure which model.

On the Motons, I think they are working out the issue with the droplinks hitting the Banjo bolts for the remote resevior as well as maybe a couple other minor issues that I spoke with them about. They were extremely professional and helpful with accomidating, but, unfortunately, I need a set of coilovers within a short time period, so, ZZYZX steped up with the offer.

Nice purses? You'll have to talk to my wife about those. lol

this is more for race applications, right? looks like the shell is
going to be fully adjustable, not just the spring seats.

I don't see why they wouldn't work for street use. My plan is to use them year round, I'll ask him if there is any reason they won't work for street use.

basically for street, we want less adjustability and more durability
vs weather and a choice for softer linear spring rates.

The one thing about the Motons that I really like was that they were charged with Nitrogen, and, if you wanted to soften the ride for street use or different surfaces, you could simply adjust the pressure in the reseviors. It actually wasn't too bad since I had my own nitrogen bottle. I guess we'll see soon how the ZZYZX Motorsports coilovers compare to the Moton's. Seeing what they have done with the WRX's and Evo's, I'm very optimistic.

You can get our Ledas charged with the gas, too... But, I do know that ZZYZX makes a very fine product!

It sounds like ZIZZICKS. Not sure the meaning, maybe the sound of a car revving on/off.

Motons are my favorite too. I really like how they use a smaller (larger?) piston/shaft so you can run less gas pressure. This is especially important on a stock class Mini as you don't want the gas pressure to raise the ride height.

Actually, I wasn't even aware that they made stock legal struts/shocks for our Mini's. How much are they?

They only make them in the "Motorsport" model, which are BIG $$$$$! I think they're like $2000 per corner. If they made the Clubsport model, then they would be less.

Is this the same company that made mountain bike forks years ago?

Ok, I'll be the one to ask: what kind of ballpark price do you think they're going to be asking for these?
