Pilo Rear Stress Bar: Disappointing

Just a heads up. I received my new rear bar from Pilo and was less than satisfied. First, the bar I recieved is round and cut straght at the ends, as opposed to what is described and pictured on the site. Second, the bar relocated the rear seat backs forward by close to an inch at the top, making for very uncomfortable seating in the rear and creating a gap with the cargo area shelf. This was not even mentioned on the site. Third, some critical spacing washers mentioned in the instructions were not included, making for a less than positive connection to the car's structure.

I will definitely be contacting them about all of this, but wanted to head off any would be purchasers who might be equally disappointed with the product.

I have had no problems with mine...But then again, I don't have an interior. I think it has done great. Sorry, for your unhappiness.

Talked with Dan at Pilo this morning. He said that they changed the design of the bar at some point from oval/tapered to round as it is "lighter". Also that the washers were not found to be necessary. He agreed that the page on his site and the instructions needed to be updated to reflect these changes. He also agreed that it made sense to add a warning about the impact on the rear seat position, as this is not mentioned at all.

I have no doubt the bar is functional, just felt a bit mislead by the "marketing."

I question it's functionality, aside from being a nice camera mount. Someone, I think it was TonyB, mentioned that the attachment points were to a relatively flimsy (nonstructural) area. I don't know... I just sayin...

Ok, so it has absolutely no redeeming qualities then.

I have it....other than the fact I like the look of strut bars I don't think it's much good. My seats sit forward as well and I don't really see a lot of funtional use for it being bracketed in that spot. All in all i wanted the shiny aluminum bar and I guess thats what I've got!!

It's not supposed to attach to a structural section. It ties the 2 upper parts of the rear to "HELP" keep it from flexing. It's not designed to single handedly brace the rear. It only acts as a variable in bracing the rear. I've got a cheap one on my car, and it actually helps. Is it 100% perfect? No, but every little bit helps.

I have one and I bought it to fight rear flex, which it "SEEMS" to do....

when I use the rear as a "station wagon" it is in the way... have to get out the wrench.......PIA
