I wish!

If I can bust *** tommarow and lay my new patio in the back yard, I should be able to check all of the great suggestions given by all of you.

Thanks,

I just went through the same thing this weekend - found rear sway bar links upper bolts slightly loose - made a terrible sound. Added lock washer, loc-tite and tightened 'em both "gudentight". After a day under the car searching for anything else - that turns out to have corrected the problem ! Hope it works for you too ~

Update.

Well, the good news is that I finished installing our new patio last weekend and it looks great.

Tonight I finally got back under the car to check the one thing yet to check, the sway bar bushings. The first one I pulled off was dry. Re-greased and put it back on. Then I checked the other side and it was the same as the first. I was very happy thinking that must be it. After putting it all back together I went out for A test drive.

It's still f*^% there!! Clunk Clunk as I go over the speed bumps leaving my house. Then clunk clunk when I run over the zot dots on the road or any semi medium size crack in the road. I might be a little better but it's still there.

Here is the list of what I have checked.

Exhaust hangers
Drop Links
Sway bar clearance
Sway bar bushings
Control arms
License plate
Lug nuts
Checked all the bolts on everything in the rear
Partial tray
Opened the rear hatch and drove

I'm still looking

I also had a problem with the jamnuts on the droplink coming loose. They felt tight but I needed to tighten the crap out of them or else I would have a terrible clunk. Also, are they adjusted right? If they are too high or low depending on if you have lowered your car...they will do that.:impatient

Is the module in the wheel well? Is it behind the wheel well cover?

Creaking/Squeeking from Rear...

Lubing the rear sway bushings did the trick for me.

Longboard (although late to the quest here) yes, the canister is behind the plastic wheel well cover towards the front of the car. If you are looking into the wheel well it's to the right and up.

My sound, which sounds like something loose, seemed to show up after installing my snow tires and grabbing my ebrake around a corner one day (please don't ask)... Now going over small bumps I have a rattle clunking kind of sound. I'm going to try some of the remedies here and report back.

The rear interior of the car is completely out to repair my hatch hinges (one is bent) so the sound is definately NOT interior bit related.

I checked all suspension bolts for tightness and found nothing drastically loose. The sway bar body mounts were slightly loose and the bolts holding the air canister were slightly loose (though those are rubber mounted).

I believe my noise is coming from my caliper! If I smack it (not very hard) with my hand it makes a metal on metal rattle... When I pull the ebrake slightly while driving the noise stops and will stay gone for a while. It comes back, I pull the brake and the story starts over.

I am still wondering if the brake trick is just hiding a bad rubber suspension mount...

I had a clunk for some time ...
Turnes out to be the HEIM on the adjustable front sway bar
You can't tell when jacked up, and really difficult to test with the wheels on and the car on the ground.
Had a alignment and sure enough ... LOTS of play in the joint ... and I had checked with wheel off the ground more than once.

(hope ALTA will help me)

Forgive me if you 've already discussed this, but could it be the swaybar mount?

<edit> Nevermind... I see that you have looked at this.

I have been experiencing this same problem for the last couple months. I have the Madness sway bar that's been on my '02 MCS for about 4 years. After the first couple years, I had a squeaking issue which was quickly fixed with some suspension lube, but now I have a heavy clunking from both the left and right sides in the rear. It happens on 'sharp' bumps in the pavement, and only at speeds up to about 60km/h. On the highway, there is no problem.

I've checked everything except the sway bar bushings. Is it possible that they are old and dried out and need replacement? If they're dried out, they probably shrink which allows for some play between the bar and the bushings. It makes sense that they'd also be harder which would cause more noise. I'm gonna have to check this out.

It could be dry swaybar bushings. mine clunked and a bit of grease fixed it

Just to try and halp

You can't really check the end link fo play if you jack the car up ...
There is then "pressure" on the anti roll bar because thats what it does (yes you can tighten the bolts ..but cant tell if the joint is loose.
I must have checked mine 3 or more times .
When finally on an alignment rack > WITH WEIGHT ON THE WHEELS < the end link Heim (I have ALTA adjustables) was unquestionably loose.
The same stands true for the sway bushings.

Hope this helps
