mechanic needed for a classic mini???? HELP

I just purchased a classic 2000 mini with sport package (1.3 Liter Fuel Injected motor), left hand drive.

The motor seems to be loose when i am engaging out of 1st or reverse when there is more torque to the motor. It sounded like a thump or clunk against the firewall. I am wondering if one of the motor mounts are loose or damaged.

Does anyone on this board know of a good mechanic or a shop that specializes or works on these classic minis as I would like a complete check/tune up on this car before handing it to my wife. I am located on Long Island, NY.

Thank you ALL!

Sam

Sounds like typical torque rattle and roll associated with classic Minis but you want o be sure. Too much movement can damage your exhaust mounts. Contact these guys - I don't think they work on Minis but they will be able to steer you in the right direction: http://www.minicityltd.com/pgOrder/order.html

noise from engine compartment

yeah that does makes sense as when the car is rolling and moving at higher speeds, there are no signs of such noise. It only happens when I am getting off 1st and reverse when there are more torque movement on the motor. Anyhow, I will have a mechanic thoroughly check it on the lift to be sure.

Thanks

Sam

I never owned a classic with injection, but on older Minis, the engine mounts were rubber vulcanized to a backing plate. Over time, the vulcanizing can deteriorate and the mount separates. They aren't a HUGE job to replace. I think the ones I did, I didn't even have to remove the motor.
