Also, if you don't want to completely remove the liner, you should be able to trim it, or remove the portion that the bar traverses...
Spunky, I've always wondered what the liner weighs... I'm guessing about 2 lbs. If not much trouble, would you mind weighing it and sharing? Thanks much. Sorry for the OT... maybe PM'ing me would be better...

According to my careful prosthesis, the liner including the plastic attachment clips weighs in at 1.5 lbs. Probably less weight savings than driving barefoot, but it's one less fooferaw to mess with under the hood.
I originally pulled mine out so I could work out some wiring paths for a set of led cylon type lights for the hood scoop. I was working with a guy who builds them for Honda Gold Wings to see if he could do them for a reasonable price for us. That project came acropper due to Spunky's Adventures In Health Care and I just never put the liner back in.

Spunky, thanks for the info, and the humor as well! When I removed by Xenon wiper assembly, I needed to fold-back a portion of the liner to gain access to the fluid lines. I contemplated removing the whole thing then, but my IC diverter was designed with the liner in place, and I didn't want to dork with it at the time...
The liner was thought to keep the heat off the hood, preventing the paint from blistering, but that seems to be not so. As a sound-deadener, I'm sure it muffles the SC and engine noise, but that's no biggie for me...
Thanks.

The air diverter does have two attachment points shared with the hood liner but it can be removed indepent of the scoop/diverter. This will help relieve the pressure on the brace and should allow the hood to close completely. Yes I had the problem also. Solved it this way. And lose 1 1/2 lb. to boot or rather to bonnet.
