M7 - Srp Q:

Peter or Randy,

How will this new product affect the installation of the M7 Strut bar?

I was wondering the same thing since I was thinking of buying a Strut bar.

You can't have both products installed at the same time.

However, you won't need them both. While most strut bars connect at two of the three bolts, and provide little or no resistance to the "mushrooming" effect, the mounts of the M7 Strut Bar utilize a similar design to the SRP and are also designed to prevent deformation of the tower.

The SRP is meant as an alternative to the full strut bar with the same protection to the tower.

This product is for someone that wants to avoid the ever present mushroom effect but does not need or want a full strut brace. If you have a decent strut tower brace with a thick enough base you will not need this product.

I already got your strut brace. Now if only the car it is earmarked for would get here, I would be happy.

That's perfect then, thank you.

M7-srp

We listned to you.... And here's the new M7 Strut Re-enforcement Plate "SRP"

Thru the years, customers and friends with MINI's has had one common complaint....The strut towers mushroom after heavy impacts from shocks
and low aspect ratio tires. At a first glance the shock tower take on a slightly
convex shape barely visible at glance, but if you would compare to the original sheet metal, you would find that the horizontal plane has been moved
as much as 3/8" of an inch upwards, throwing the suspension out of any possible alignment fix.

The problem will most likely show up as a slight pull either left or right
depending on which strut tower is buckled.

The M7 SRP will solve this problem by sandwiching the sheetmetal and shock
top plate, creating a homogenous top surface that will not bend, no matter what.

Adding the SRP to your MINI, is an inexpensive solution to an expensive fix.

The plate is made from CNC machined aluminum, black hard anodized to prevent chipping, or oxidization.

Price: $109.00 for the pair.
Available right now.

Most strut braces are not beefy enough to offer any protection sgainst mushrooming.

very true...many are just flimsy connections that only use two holes

But if you look at the M7 brace, its practically the SRP design with a strut bar attached. It's pretty beefy.

I really like the looks of the "black" plates........ When I add a bar i think the unit would be the M7 in black with the logo engraved...but that is just me.

Two questions:

How common is this problem? I haven't followed the suspensions forum, but I've never heard of this problem before.

"Sandwiching"? Is there a piece that goes inside as well? Or is it just a matter of removing the three nuts on top, putting on the plate, and replacing the three nuts? Does an alignment need to be done afterwards?

Thanks-

Excellent. I was in the process of making drawings for these very parts. Now I won't have to muck with it.

On the other hand, it seemed like a great way to try out www.emachineshop.com, so now I have to come up with another project for that...

Another question: If you already have a mushroom, will installing the srp squish everything back into its proper form and position?

Question

Peter, nice looking piece for sure. I'd like to see your strut bar come black like this piece. I do have a concern with it and looking at your pictures I see that the factory nuts are reinstalled but not protruding above the nut which begs a question of grip strenght with only two to four threads holding on the SRP and the strut. I'm more a custom to having at least two to three threads showing above the nut head after it is installed. What is the torque required on the nuts after the SRP is installed? Is this nut a one time use item where it is slightly deformed? If so, I beleieve you need the bolt to fully proturde through the nut for proper grip strenght. If I'm in left field with all of this, please direct me back to the dugout.

M7 SRP Questions

The new M7 SRP (Strut Reinforcement Plates), IMHO, look really, really cool. However, I do have a couple of questions, as I'm sure others do also. So, here we go.

1. Am I right in thinking that what you are buying is solely a strong metal plate to reinforce the top of the shock towers? Is there new hardware included?

2. Can you still use a strut tower bar on the car? is the plate too thick to mount them additionally?
