Yea, it would be horrible if a bar that you'll never see were to develop some slight surface corrosion.

Make sure you consider what powder coating will do to your tolerances. Might not bolt back together if they're too tight.

ha that actually happened to a buddy of mine in our senior engineering design class. He had to bore out all the holes. Cause the bolts wouldn't fit back in

Looks a lot like the sub-frame connectors I put on my Camaro... they made a HUGE difference in handling.

Why not anodize the aluminum instead of powder coating? Aluminum is typically used because it is lightweight and non-corrosive. We use untreated 6061 at work on equipment used on oil rigs and in harsh environments with no corrosion problems. I can understand powder coating steel, but don't really see the need for powder coating aluminum. Just polish it up so it's nice and shiny, then cut the cost of the powder coating from the price.

What about the skid plate issue. From all the photos it looks like the skid plate will be a problem.

Out of curiosity, how will this effect clearance? I know on my camaro I bump on some speed bumps after adding the SFCs

If you think that anodizing will be the better way to go we will look into that and see how it will affect the price. I will let you know .

I see no issue with the skid plate mounting at this time.

I have already been on most of my local canyon roads wich have some very rough spots with no rubbing issues . Will Turner and I also put in a long track day two weeks ago as a sort of final sign off on the project and everything went very well. They tuck up out of the way quite a bit and we do not see a problem no matter how low your car is. Mine is about 1.7 below stock heigth and on the track I run a low 40 series tire.

As you found out...no to anodizing as it is more expensive to make.

As for group buy, not this time around, as I am only making 30pcs, and expecting to sell out before it lands in my office. I will possibly make a
package deal if you buy our M7-STB or an H-Sport sway bar package, I will let everyone know.

So, are you going to have them powder coated or painted? What color?

When we had originally decided on powder coating we were going to go with stealthy black. It seemed at the time that most did not want the pieces to be too noticable . We have not set this in stone and when Peter and I get together after our holiday travels later this week we can come to agreement.

Thank you Maxmini for chiming in on the Color choice and all.....

But the reality is that black works 99% of the time, appeals to 99% of the MINI
owners, so I had to make an excecutive decisision and black it is.

With that said, if you PM me and order a "bare aluminum" USS, I can add that
to the initial order (same price).

i might just wonder why you want more stealth on the bottom of the chassis where 99% of the time its exposed to salt, water, rain, dirt, road film, grease, road tar, trash, and just about anything imaginable...

just a quickie question to those who wants black.. i LOVE black, but the black m7 grille i got now looks great when its washed.... after 10 minutes... its gone to a flat grey....

Have you tried to fit a skid plate? I appreciate that you do not feel it is an issue, but the forward section looks like it would interfere with exactly where my Moss plate is. Other than that, I'm interested.

I think I'd go with that and pursue the clear anodizing option. Have you checked into shot blasting? It adds material protection and might cost less than anodizing?
