The S-Lite/Runflat combo is around 48-55 lb / corner, depending on the tires. If memory serves, the S-Lites are 25 lbs each and the Pirelli Runflats are 23 LBs each. Unbelievably the Goodyear RSA's are 30 lbs each.

Depending on your needs, you may want to look at other options. Dropping weight in the tires/wheels pays dividends in acceleration/braking/cornering.

Amen to your entire post. When I swapped the S-Lites with Goodyear RSA's for SSRs & Michelin Exalto A/Ss, I couldn't believe the weight difference as the S-Lites & RSA's were comming off and the SSRs & Exaltos were going on. Get in the car for a test drive, and it was as if a passenger had gotten out of the car.... Braking distance was improved as well (I lost the passenger....)

Why do people pay more for S-Lites and then swap them out right away? Is it because they came with the sport package?

How much do non-runflat tires weigh?

Aren't the S-Lites and runflats much stronger (i.e., they are less susceptible to crack if you hit a deep pothole) than lightweight aftermarket wheels/tires.

Aren't you guys worried about getting flats?

If I had the money, I'd get some really light wheels and tires, and buy a roof rack and bungee a spare up there.

Yes--if you go with all the options in the sport package seperately, the S-Lites only add $50.00 if you change to the sport package. Some people have actually gotten all the options in the sport package seperately without the S-lites, and gone with the stock x-lites.

You can buy a can of fix a flat and have a compressor with you to help if you don't have runflats. You could also buy the small spare from MINI and get a cover for it and store it in your boot or behind the passenger seat if you wish.

LOTS of people have ditched the runflats and are surviving just fine. Pay a visit to the tire/wheel/brake forum to see what everyone prefers.

The runflat only helps you get home or somewhere. After that is when it get's hard. The majority of tire shops will not repair them, nor will they have them instock to replace, and they are frequently on b/o. So it is smart to have at least one spare wheel (or a comlete set for other purposes) at home while the tire is being ordered/replaced. Carry a small compressor, and can o' fix o' flat. Some people have plugged their own tire holes when tire shops refused, but I do not know how.

I have been through this and it was a pain, it took almost 2 weeks to get back to go. Luckily I have a beater car for the winter also.
