crazy shaking/vibration after lowering !!?!?
So I lowered my mini with tiens s techs then got a alignment.. i also put new strutmounts with tower defenders from cravenspeed there was a small vibration after two days it got so extreme I thought wheel was falling off. I replaced both axles with auto part international ones (new) and hasn't changed anything still extreme vibration/shaking. I don't know what to do?! Please help!!

I'm sure you have double checked everything and had the alignment guy look while he was under there? When my axles went bad I mainly got a slight vibration up to bout 60 or so and then it got worse up to bout 70 but then kinda mellowed out. Wheel weight shouldn't make it vibrate that bad. Only thing I can think is something was not installed correct with the springs.. Make sure the springs are in their perches correct and that the end-links didn't get bent somehow or anything else for that matter..

OK so I took a look and driver spring came off of its original spot fixed it and took mini for a ride vibrations went down about half of what it was before . I switch rims to make sure it wasn't a bent or off balanced rim and still does shake and vibrate. I check everything else seems tight and nothing out of place?

Mine road fine after being lowered till the axles gave way at 100,000 miles.. I'm not slammed but as low or lower then most. Did H-Sport springs first and then went to coilovers.. If you only did springs which would lower the car about 1'' up to 1-1/4'' it should still ride fine. Maybe a tad rougher but no shake.

So far have not heard anything good about the aftermarket axles....esp if lowered.
When/if time comes, I am looking at a set of these....

Do quality oem axles make a difference in vibration? Ive just lowered my r53 with ST coils and have them almost all the way up and still get a moderate amount of vibration. Also they just seem to be bouncy, my mistake I guess, next time its clearly worth dropping the extra coin on a set with adjustable dampening.

So I've found the solution! You need a driveshaft spacer on each side, but I have no clue where you'd find them and if its even possible to install them on our cars. If not, the only solution is to keep driving the car the way it is and it will eventually improve (no clue how long it will take though!)

I am experiencing the same exact symptoms on my R53 JCW that I lowered on PSS10s. I started with the collars roughly in the middle of the threads front and rear, and the car was DUMPED. I went on a test drive and not only was I rubbing at full lock in the front, I was rubbing like crazy in the rear. Any acceleration at all and the whole front end wobbled and vibrated. You could feel it in the steering wheel and in the tunnel. I raised the coilovers this morning about .5" to 0.75" and the difference is night and day. Still a tiny bit of vibration in second gear but it's slight. The car drives much happier at a taller ride height. Going to put some miles on this spec before an alignment (toed out about 0.25" front, toed in rear with a tad more than factory camber front and rear) and see if things improve. If not, I can raise the car another 0.25-0.5" before I'm at the max height of the coilovers and approximately stock ride height.
Current specs:
Pilot Super Sports 215/45/17 F/R
Front: 24 9/16" FTG (fender to ground)
Rear: 24 3/4" FTG

It has been my experience the JCW Springs eventually settle to almost 3/4 inch drop for 1st Gen. Have always had this set up never experiencing the vibration. I have read where when folks gradually lowered their suspension over period of time, the vibration was not present or at least not as bad. Putting in new axles will not alleviate the vibration in cases where it became present after lowering 1.5 inches as it's not a defective worn part issue so much as it's a new drive line angle issue for the axle.

I learned this the hard way as well.
Gray Raven is correct - the cars are designed so tightly that any change, regardless of how minimal, is going to have a pronounced effect.
I installed my coilovers almost 40k miles ago, put the car fairly low with the OEM axles. I managed maybe 12k on the OEM axles- car had roughly 95k on it at that point. Snapped the drivers side one evening - replaced both with aftermarket. Not long after, the passenger side snapped taking out the oil filter housing (what a PITA to replace) - swapped another set as they were under warranty. Passenger side snapped as I was pulling into the alignment shop....
Absolutely bummed. Turns out the passenger motor mount was shot - making the angle absolutely un workable. Replaced the mount, both axles and raised the car.
15k miles later, and the axles are "clicking". I guess they're "breaking in".
My next move will be to replace the suspension back to factory and to replace the axles again with aftermarket.
The only real solution, and I've spoken to a number of pros on this - custom axles. I just can't pony up for custom r50 axles when I have a getrag 6 speed on the sidelines.
