Rear Sway Bar for ALL4 - 22mm or 24mm?

A beefed up rear sway bar is a requirement for ALL my cars and now it is time to add one to our CM ALL4. Trying to decide between the WMS 22 or 24mm bars.

2012, Stock Suspension, All Season Run Flats and the front camber mod.

100% street driven, daily driver, sees snow. No autocross or track time. Want to get more of the R53 instant response that I loved.

Had a 19mm set to full stiff on my R53 and was very pleased with it.

Pretty sure that the 22mm is the right one, but I figured I would get some opinions before placing the order.

Thanks!

I've only seen 22mm bars for the countryman. Do you have a link to the 24mm bar?

VIP Customs has a 23mm.

Way has the 24mm

Weird, I'm surprised Way makes 2 bars for virtually the same car. I had planned to get the 22mm bar from Way, but now I'm curious to the differences as well.

Yeah, I keep forgetting about the VIP bar since they keep pushing the delivery date back. I just added a pre-loved VIP intake and the quality is very nice.

That actually might be the best set up....split the difference between the 22 and 24, plus it has 3 holes over the 2 holes each of the Way. Of course, there are so many variables in sway bar design, who knows how they actually compare!

Thanks everyone!

Of course! Gotta give back...

Emailing with VIP, they expect theirs to be ready shortly. I think I will split the difference and go with them. Very pleased with their intake and two sets of light brackets.

It is going on my Christmas list, so I will report back after the holidays.

Thanks!

I think I'm going to end up with the WMW bar. Are you planning on installing yourself?

Yeah, I'll put it in. MINI rear sways are not too bad, put them in (and then out) of both of our R53's. Just pull the rear shocks, makes it so much easier. Guess how I learned that?

So I bought the Way rear sway took it to my guy today and he says are you sure you want to install on an all wheel car....?? I've had one both of my r53s, and all he said he would change the "feel" of the all wheel drive.....when I asked for specifics....he said it's personal preference....so now I'm thinking about it....but I'm not sure exactly about what.....lol...to mean rear sway means less under steer but I've never done it on all wheel....??

So all 4 owners...please help...

Yes, it will change the feel the same way it did for your R53s...the car will want to turn.

My personal automotive philosophy is that 98% of all vehicles need upgraded swaybars. I have personally added larger bars to two AWD Subraus I owned, made a huge difference.

Install!!!

Handling characteristics will differ slightly between FWD and AWD but as stated above, basically every factory car regardless of drive train layout needs beefier rear sway bars.

I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area....took my tech, a former BMW certified, 1 1/2 hours to get it done. Took it out for a quick spin before driving home and what a difference. Like replacing a battleship with a PT boat. Can't wait for the weekend......Way rear sway....

I'm going for the 24mm bar from Way. I found that I never used the middle setting in my old 19mm bar on my Coupe. I just went from lowest to highest setting. I can't imagine there'd be a major difference when using the 24 mm bar.

Really interested too, can someone describe the changes the best words can do? haha

It will turn in alot better, kills all the understeer? However, does the ride becomes harsh?

In a recent conversation I had with Way himself, he told me he is no longer selling the 24mm rear bar. That is the one I wanted and he couldn't sell one to me. I ended up going for the 22mm bar, made by NM Engineering (Neuspeed). I ordered it about 3 weeks to a month ago and I am still waiting for it. The wait is due to NM as I understand it.
