Suspension Searched, now I need some help!
Searched, now I need some help!
Alright, I just picked up a new daily driver (literally, 2013 mini cooper) i had it speced out with the sport suspension as it was offered at no additional charge. It is a nice compliant everyday suspension, but I would like ut to be a bit lower...
So...which spring works best with these shocks? I looked at doing TSW springs since that is what I have on my R50 ...but what are your impressions on them? The other springs I looked at are NM Engineering, H&R, and Swift. All opinions are welcome and I am proud to be part of the R56 club now too

No one huh? Just looking for a mild drop that is daily driveable for the car. If it doesn't exist (a spring that plays well with OEM sport shocks) then I may omit lowering the car altogether! I would like to get rid of a little wheel gap though...
The NM RS Alpha springs seem to come highly reccommended.

Lots of guys running around on NM-eng lowering springs in the local MINI club but without changing dampers, which is guaranteed to give you a more jarring ride. TJ at Detroit Tuned has done NM springs and Koni Yellows believe. I would give the guys at Detroit Tuned a call.

I put the TSW springs on my sport shocks. Only dropped the car about 1/2" (looks better than stock but not lowered). Ride was pretty rough, then I figured out that I didn't have much travel and was riding on the bump stops. I then swapped out to a set of WMW bump stops, and the ride was better. I ended up trimming 1/4 coil off of the front because the front sat higher than the rear on my car. I then swapped to a set of the standard Cooper S shocks, and the ride is more compliant (still stiff) for my daily driver.
Check out my sig picture, it is accurate for ride height. Supposedly the NM's are a bit lower, but I haven't tried them (have a set, but don't feel like changing shocks right now).

I also have NM on my 08 with Koni Yellows. Better ride than the original Sport Suspension it replaced. Sway bar, lower control arms and a good alignment handles great for me. Few pics in my gallery.
From everything I have read, the NM RS Alpha springs seem to be solid for daily driving, even with OEM sport shocks. I think these are what I am going to stick eith. When I drop Otis off today for his final suspension fitting, I will ask Way his professional opinion between NM and TSW for my needs. Honsestly, the sport suspension from the factory feels terrific to me! Very compliant for everyday use. Ride height is the only thing that kind of bothers me :/
