Megan Racing or V-Maxx Coil-overs????

So I can't decide what I want to do. Do I want Megans or do I want V-Maxx?? Megans come with Camber Plates and V-Maxx do not. V-Maxx you can slam your car and Megans you can not. I do not want to slam my car, but I do want to get rid of the horrible oem wheel gap and I do want to drop it significantly.

I was told the Megans don't go that low and the V-Maxx you can drop to the floor. Can you guys post your pic of your R55 and R56 MINIs that are running Megans and V-Maxx so that I can see how low or at what height you are running at? If I see what you are running then I will better be able to decide what to purchase.

If I get Megans along with the other suspension parts I will save $250. If I get V-Maxx and Ireland Engineering Camper Plates, I will not.

Here is my potential setup: Megans w/ included camber plates or V-Maxx COs, Ireland Engineering Camber Plates, (if I go V-Maxx), H-Sport Rear Control Arms, Front and Rear adjustable end-links, and R56 Rear Shock Bushings.

Post some pics, please and thank you.

From what I read you want to slam this on the ground. The Vmaxx do go lower, but I wouldn't do that as I've seen that destroy axles and even a trans.
The megans are a much better deal and better quality over the Vmaxx.

Nah, I no longer want to slam. I just want to lower and get rid of 09 stock wheel gap, but not have the wheel go into the wheel well. I definitely want it to be low, but effectively low. So I should go Megans??

From what I found looking around before I bought ST's, it seems the amount lower VMAXX may go than others is just getting into "hellaflush" territory, which it sounds like isn't what you need. Any coilover option is going to get rid of that wheel gap for you, and by all accounts megans ride nicer, handle better, and come with the camber plates.

For reference, my '06 on ST's, barely halfway down. I feel this is "just right" as far as ride height goes:

I found this thread since budget wise the VMAXX and the Megans would work for me. But then I started looking at the BC Racing BR series. They look gnarly, but what makes them better? I also found a set for under $1K which I might swing.

Thanks for any feedback - the time for deals is in the next month or so I wouldn't mind someone making up my mind for me. x

VMAXX will put you on the floor. For reference: my R53 front: 1/2 way down. Rear: 3/4 down. Megans offer much more adjustability. For the price, I couldn't pass up VMAXX since I do love the low life problem is I have 3 sets of speedbumps coming into my apt complex so this is as low as I can go until I move

Edit: ugh the app shrunk my photo...again...my rear tires are tucked and the front have less than 5mm gap.

This is somehow the predicament I am right now. I know I want a better setup, but do not want to lower that much the car. Only if lowering will enhance handling at the track.
Im looking for adjustable coilovers with adjustable camber plates. I think megans are the way.

I'm just waiting on a deal and every $ matters. Found Megan SS's for $860 at Curcuit Motorsports. Hoping that as we get closer to Christmas I can find something (BC's or Megans) under $800 somewhere!

I'm between them too. But price is getting me closer to Megans. I have a couple of questions for anyone in the know.

Do cheaper coils not last as long as more expensive ones? I was also reading on a Subaru forum that the Megans didn't last very long - 15K. Any speculation on why? And what makes the KWV3's or the PSS10's so much better than something less than half the cost?

Lastly, should I worry about this:

The photo that generally comes up for any vendor selling the Megan SS coils

But when I go specifically to version for a Gen 2 this pic comes up:

The springs look VERY different...

What's been pushing me towards the BC racing coilovers is that you can get them with custom swift springs and they'll custom valve the shocks with the springs.

From what I've read on springs is that they do make a difference. Swifts have been known to have a consistent spring rate through there compression and they use less material which means more stroke and less weight.

But all that comes at a cost.

If you're not slamming Megan's vs. Koni & TSW

I was going to go with Koni Yellows and TSW springs but the fact that the Megans come with camber plates caught my eye. If you're not going to go any lower than the TSW's would go would you recommend the Megan's over the Koni/TSW combination?

...

This is when the "you get what you pay for" "dont buy crappy CO´s for a premium car" "then buy CO´s from ebay" comments come in, and in my opinion, they add nothing but junk reading.

Anyway, other than warranty, if they are rebuildable and they are sold by Way, then they are ok for me

I personally love my Vmaxx. I do wish they had camber plates and 2.5" springs up front though. It would make the low life a little easier. They go ridiculously low but if you don't have them cranked down all the way they ride great for coilovers. I personally like the stiffer ride but these are pretty comfortable. But I don't have any complaints other than when they get cold you can hear the springs clunking from them binding. But that's no big deal unless you're just really **** about stuff like that.

If you just add some grease to the bearings your spring bind should go away. I was planning on greasing mine on the install, but once I had them together I noticed my bearings were moving quite freely. No clunking here

Yeah I was thinking about that but I wasn't sure if it would work. I'm actually going to try that tomorrow! Thanks!
