Wheels Question 15x8

Hello follow members I'm new to the mini world.

currently my r53 is running on stock 17inch S-lites with kumho run-flats
very very rough ride....hurting my back.

I'm thinking about switching to this setup Advan 15x8 4x100 +25 Offset

with this setup what should i expect? would this even work without any issues
and what tires should i use.

this is a daily driven car need something a bit smoother.... .

any suggestion would be greatly appreciated

The very firm ride is probably mostly due to the run-flats; they have very stiff sidewalls. Thus, switching to non-run-flats may be all you need to cure you sore back.

I don't have personal experience with such an extreme wheel/tire switch, but my guess is that your plan to switch to 15X8 wheels with appropriate sized tires (at least 225/45/15, and tire choices are very limited) might keep you chasing your tail for a while.

I'm not sure that the 15" wheels would even clear the calipers, but even if they did, that's just a start. For example, the new 15X8" wheels/tires (225/45/15) would stick out about 1.3" farther than OEM sized 17" wheels/tires. The smaller diameter of the wide tire would also make the speedometer read higher than with your OEM setup, but that may actually be more accurate. The shorter tire would also give a slightly lower effective gearing, but your engine rpms will also be higher at speed; something to consider for highway driving. Finally, by going to such wide tires, you may be giving back some of the compliant ride you gained by switching to non-RFs.

If the switch to non-RFs alone doesn't quite provide the compliant ride you want, I'd think that going to non-RFs on 16" wheels/tires would be sufficient to ease you back.

You might go to www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp to estimate what different sized wheels and tires would do relative to what you have.

I run 15x8 at +38 with no issues. Note from the signature that the suspension is tweaked.

You might find a 16x7, or 7.5 at +38 a good compromise.

+25 is a ton of "poke". Some folks swear by it, but not I. A 15x8 at +25 will look like a dune buggy.

I agree with Jim - losing the run-flats is going to make a huge difference. THe stiffness of those tires is legendary.
