Increasing ride height

Hello,

We live in a place where we could use a couple of cm (or about 1 inch) of increased ground clearance. Is there a way to increase the ride height? What kind of modification would I need to do?

Thanks,
Alessandro

We don't get this question often here. There's a lot on lowering, but darn little on raising. If you only needed about a .5" rise, I'd suggest getting up to 1" larger diameter tires, but I wouldn't recommend getting 2" larger diameter tires to raise ride height by about 1".

There must be a way to safely raise without getting taller springs and shocks, but I don't know what it would be. Sorry.

If the CM from DAKAR can be raised...Why can't the stock CM? That would be a question for the Suspension Specialists.

Some camber plates are said to raise ride height slightly, but I can't seem to
find any specific figures. Perhaps someone makes a spacer?
Taller springs would be the way to go, but I don't
know anyone who makes them (except MINI - they make several springs for
each model depending on how heavily specced the car has - if you have a MINI
without sunroof and a lot of extras, and order the springs for one with heavier
options, ride height would go up slightly.)

If you haven't looked at this you should. They have a great video of a lifted CM4 in action and they make a great hitch solution as well. I'm thinking Bubba needs lift instead of a chop.

Maybe I am just missing it but is there supposed to be a link in the post? I looked at the Countryman Connection website that was linked in the earlier post but I dont see any videos there. Please help?

He means this page with the video: http://www.countrymanconnection.com/...a_flatbed.html

Download the movie directly here: http://www.countrymanconnection.com/...%20trailer.m4v

Can't direct link a movie, so here's a pic.

From what I can see, that's lifted. It gives you an idea of it driving along. I assume that's what they were pointing out.

Not going to lie, I keep looking at the lift and think hmmm maybe ill do that instead of dropping mine once I get it. My only question then is what does it do to the handling of the CM.

I just wish the pictures on the website weren't the size of postage stamps so I can see what they did. Also, the white car makes it hard to see so maybe something with more color would make it easier to see? All in all it looks good but I cant wait for more details.

Hang tight - I'll get you some bigger images (200% of original size + re-render) from the originals.

Okay, that was more of a pain in the butt than I thought it would be.

Thank you for posting the pics!

Do you have any idea what the numbers written just above the fenders are? Are those the max tire size that can fit? Any idea what tire/wheel size is on the car in the pic and what the max sizes are that can fit? After installing many a lift on jeeps I know that 2 inches of lift does not mean that a 2 inch larger tire can fit. It looks like the rear tires will hit the front of the fenders well before they will hit the tops.

I know you probably dont know but I dont like it much when a manufacturer puts a couple of pictures online and then gives absolutely no information about what they are selling or developing. I know its early development and its a bit of a rant so I will be patient and see what they come out with.

Not a clue. I just grabbed, processed, and threw them up for you.

Buuut, if I had to wager a guess... Those numbers are the difference between stock height and lifted height.

27 1/2" and 28" being stock, and 29 7/8", 30", and 30.5" being new heights.

Cool

I do like the look of the lift kit but I think by doing so u would need to put larger tires on to complete the overall look. Only problem by putting larger tires on the ride quality goes down. What size tire do you think it needs? Plus, I vote no mudflaps.

No, I do believe the larger tires in this case would just need to be a larger sidewall (to fill the gap more, give it a more off road appearance ), which would most certainly improve ride quality. The downside to this would it would not be the correct wheel size, so it would cause an inaccurate speedo and odo.

Ride quality would usually only get worse with a smaller sidewall, which is usually down when you increase rim size, while trying to keep the same overall wheel size (or close) to keep things accurate.

Has anyone done this yet? How did it effect handling?

Thanks,

Still trying to find out if anyone has installed these and what, if any, issues popped up. I will be going to 225-50/R18 tires after the lift. They are one more inch taller and should put the speedo to about correct.
