TSW vs. JCW

Im kind of stuck between these 2. I narrowed it to these 2 due to my autocross classing. The local BMWCCA chapter I autocross with has a points system to classify. So in order to stay in the class Im in and want to be in, I want to choose between these 2. TSW springs with stock struts, or the JCW springs and struts. Any expierences with these 2? Keep in mind, my stock struts have 50,000 on them. Also Konis would be nice for the TSW's but due to points, I cannot use them.

I've got the TSW's and love them! IMHO if you choose to go this way you won't be disappointed

Sounds like a good call. I assume the JCW is tuned to work with their shocks, so you'd probably be spending more and not getting all the benefits of the JCW.

TSW always looking for something better for our MINIs have been testing the 3rd version of their linear lowering performance springs. What sets the V3 apart form the others is that it will not have the wine barrel shape like the OEM spring on our R53/52/50 but instead look like the R56 TSW Spring, see pics below, top V2 and below look like V3. The feed back from those running the V3 is very very good. They also allow for more camber in the front and no need to mod the inside fender. I hope to have them ready to ship before the end of Jan. http://www.autoxcooper.com/tsw_suspension.html

There is a NAM thread about problems with the TSW springs. Sounds like there was a bad batch of springs. If they are using the same manufacture I would be cautious. If you go with TSW I suggest you talk to them about the spring problem. Here is the link the the thread about the problem.

If you can get JCW springs with the JCW shocks, that is a good combination. I would not go with the JCW springs and stock shocks.

Our BMWCCA chapter adds the same points (2) for either springs or single adjustable shocks. IMHO, you'd be better off with the Konis. They will help a lot more with handling than the springs. On the other hand, they will cost a bit more and they won't help with appearance.

They are in testing only at this time. You may have seen the R56 springs which look like the V3 for the R53/52/50.

Yes there have been a few issues with our supplier of the springs. TSW and all of it's vendors have been very fast to address and correct the issues in a very public way. Anytime a company is producing products there will be issues sooner or later, the question is how do we deal with them?

I agree that the vendor appears to be dealing with the problem but it is still a big pain for the buyers to install TSW springs, screw around trying to determine the problem (such as is the strut nut loose or spring hitting the wheel well), remove the TSW springs, install stock springs, remove stock springs, and then install TSW replacement springs. The bad springs point to lack of quality control by the manufacture and if TSW is using the same manufacture for the new version, I would be concerned about the quality.

Chuck is probably right. But that last sentence is a big caveat, and those "V3" TSWs with the narrower front springs look pretty sweet.

Having had the V2 on my car and having autocrossed various cars, I very much agree with the above statement. The shocks will play a greater roll than either of those two springs - especially if you only use them with the stock shocks. The Konis will make a larger improvement on the autox
