Difference between R53 and R56 braking systems?

I'm looking to get some Brembos from my pal at Tire Rack, but I can't get why an R56 can take a GT 328mm kit and the R53 can only take a GT 320mm. I know, I know, it's 8mm but it seems sorta stupid when both have the same bolt pattern/measurements.

Can anyone elaborate as to why the R56 can take a bigger rotor than the R53?

I tried to upgrade to the current Brembo-JCW setup first but the dealer said it might not work, why?

Thanks

Mike

I have 328's on my R50..... And Brembo's are overpriced. Who's your pal at Tire Rack? Is it Alex? R56 brakes are designed different. Different spacing than the R50/R53. Just like why it excl. JCW calipers. Cause they are designed different still.

P.S. - See if your buddy can hook me up on (2) 22" OZ Canyon ST wheels for my Touareg for cheaper than the 515 clearance.....THANKS...lol

328 Brembos on your R50?

He's pretty much getting me what I want(front slotted bbk with matching rear replacement rotors, along with lines) for less that 2k. I autox 4 times a year and go to twice as many shows and Brembo is a word people notice.

I won't release my sources name.

The R56 brakes are basically what the R53 JCW brakes are, only not powder coated red with the JCW badging and a less aggresive pad compound.

The R56's calipers are a complete redesign (like the whole car)....its not "basically" a JCW caliper..

It is possible and has been done (but not a straight bolt-on installation). See this thread: http://www.mini2.com/forum/wheels-ty...16-brakes.html

Thanks for the mini2 link.
The rear setup looks like a bolt on deal for a GP.
