Early 02 to later front sunspension

Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the early 02 MC front suspension parts Vs. the later 02-04 parts. I really want to know why the parts aren't compatible and if it's possible to update it and how hard that would be.

I want coilovers, but it's hard to find a cheaper set that will fit the early models. Thanks in advance

Kyle

The differences in the strut rod size that fits into the bearing on the top plate. The very early MINI's had a smaller one that fit into a top hat without a bearing, but a bushings setup. You can change over to any after market Coilover system that comes with new top hats or camber plates. You can also buy new camber plates, IE Fixed are good, and use any shock, but OEM, you want with say TSW springs too.

Cool, thanks. I was thinking of going with V-Maxx coilovers and now I think I can.

The easiest way to be sure is take a light and shine it down the hole at the top of the strut tower, under the hood, and if you see bearings you are good to go. If you are thinking about V-Maxx you might also think about Megan's.

The early model also had a different stablizer link and attachment tab on the strut body; to upgrade, later model drop links will be required, along with guide support/top mount, bearing cap, dust protection washer, strut washer, upper spring seat, and upper spring seat pad.

So I just bought a set of V-Maxx coilovers and now I want to know if I will need anything special to fit these to my 02-02 build date MC?

You should check back with Stratmosphere. I heard they were still selling at that price.

This is one of the differences. The second difference, are the front sway bar end links. On early models, the sway bar end link attaches on the spring perch (if i use the correct work), unlike the later models, that the sway bar end link attaches on the body of the shock. So, changing the top mounts is not enough, he has to get end links, all the rest are the same.

Thanks nick. The V-Maxx's come with new end links because they are needed to lower the car over 40 mm. SO I think I will be ok there. And I think I will just get some camber plates to fix the top mounts.

They still have 20% off of them. Not the 30% I got but still brings them down to around $530 I believe. I say you go for it.

They are supposed to get here on the 29th, so depending on what else I need to update my early build parts it should be installed by the first week of 09 i would think. I'll definitely let you know how they feel.
