Did the NAM review on the VMAXX coilovers get published?

I went back and read all through the previous thread on the +/- of the VMAXX coilovers. Was the NAM product review ever done? Is anyone with a R53, riding on these?
I have a daily driver 2004 MCS-JCW, currretly with HR/Stock struts, and was leaning towards FSDs
Your help in my decision would be apprciated

I have a set sitting in my garage. Wanna help me install 'em?

I have TSW springs and stock dampers right now, figured I'd give the VMaxx a shot and if I don't like them, I'll sell and get the FSD's.

Not yet. They have been installed and are being evaluated. We typically do not provide any info until the process is complete.

Given lead times it's going to be a bit before we have the review written, edited and published.

I've known three VW guys to try VMaxx coils and walk away unhappy. They don't seem to provide much in the way of ride comfort or body control but rather get you low on a tight budget.

No personal experience with em, just the testimonials from 3 people whose opinions I trust.

Hmmm, that's a bit of a bummer. I don't really care about going low. I want body control (less concerned about ride comfort). Have to think this through before installing...

I think the "get what you pay for" cliche is going to win out here......I have to make a decision in the next 24 hours, as my rear suspension was damaged in an accident, and I have an opportunity to work with the insurance co. to pay for half of the product and install.......looks like maybe Hrs with FSDs is the way to go......

I've seen the article. All I can say is you will be pleasantly surprised.

As far as unhappy VW V-Maxx customers, I don't have any. We take care of everyone. Keep in mind we are nearing 2,000 VW kits installed in the USA. We are very serious about making certain the kits are right, feeback is acted upon and the warranty is rock solid. Pete, Stratmosphere. 1.866.533.1777.

I do not know the V-Maxx as a product but in their own words they have been building products for the "tuner" market and private labeling for other retailers. That certainly set off my alarm bells.

The tuner market is not concerned with track or auto-x performance but are much more concerned with what the car "looks" like. Is it low enough, is the gap around the tire small enough? Does it "look" like a race car? I am sure that these shocks will do that perfectly. But as far as being competition for a set of Koni or Bilstein coil overs I certainly have my doubts.

They appear to be height adjustable only with no provision for compression or rebound adjustment.

Caveat emptor.

Pete from Stratmosphere:

Thanks for weighing in. I still have mine sitting in the box. I'm wary about installing them because:
  1. I'm not looking for maximum drop. Currently I have TSW springs, and the height on them is just fine.
  2. I'm worried about preserving suspension travel...certainly not looking to detract from what little there is already.
  3. I don't have adjustable sway bar endlinks, and I'm thinking that they're needed based on the copy on the Stratmosphere website.
  4. I really want to avoid the "bouncy" ride that some of the other cheaper coilovers have.
I bought these on somewhat of an impulse, and have held off on the install because of the factors above. Can you put my mind to rest?

I think to put your mind at rest just install them. Too much talk and not enough actual driving. I have the links here, just give a call or PM me your name and I'll ship them right out. Pete

very nice article...sounds like i fall under the recommended user for these. Which kind of sucks because i have already written off coilovers due to how expensive decent ones are...looks like this may change my mind...i need to save up some more.
