Suspension Springs - H&R vs. Mach V. Any opinions?

I agree with the 1" drop. I know my car's settled a bit and initially I was liking the 1 1/2" drop with the H&R's, but now an 1" would be just about right.

I guess it's either going with coilovers and being able to set the ride height or waiting to see what else comes out.

Yup. I'm thinking of moving up to a 215/45/17 tire also. It will be almost 1/2 an inch taller than my stock 205/45/17 tires, which will make the wheel well gap a tad smaller.

Okay. I give up. Gonna get some Mach V springs. They just look so damn good on the R56. So where do I send my money?

Turn in Concepts? Still have them for $199 with free shipping?

Fastmini? You guys make them, correct? Will you do free shipping too?

Are you both going to stand behind them equally (for 10 years)?

Although for $200, there's not a whole lot to lose. Unless the dealer gripes over the warranty if I have any suspension problems.

Any recommended spots for an alignment in eastern PA? What do I ask for and how much should I expect to pay?

Don't know why I waited so long to do this, but I might not install them till after the winter to see how the R56 does with a decent snowfall first. I have a 200' driveway which is dirt and gravel, so is a little uneven. And even when I do go over it with a snowblower, I don't go down to the surface, or gravel just keeps busting my shear pins on the blower (and those silly pins ain't cheap, but I am, so I often just use a bent nail instead of the pins. Very stupid idea.)

Jas.

Feel free to get them from any of our retailers, or from our web site directly. Sorry, we do charge a small amount for shipping, but on the plus side, you're only one day from here, so if you ordered today, you'd have them tomorrow.

About realigning afterwards, read this guys' post #21 in the other lowering springs thread:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=116791
What I'm reading is that most people don't realign the car at all, which saves money too. Who cares if the RFs wear out a little sooner.

Springs are here!

One thing I noticed was instructions say lug bolts torque to 75ft lbs. I thought the spec for the R56 was over 100 with the change to 14mm bolts????

I have them on my car, paired with the JCW suspension...really like them...perfect drop. I torqued my lugs to what the manual says, I think that would be best.

lug bolts are torque at 114 ft lb, IIRC. 75 is too low.

Actually, it's 104ft/lbs. In prior years it's 88. So in either case 75 seems too low, and makes one wonder where they got that figure. But then I know very few people that carry a torque wrench around when they change wheels. Seems a little ****.

Also, for those who have changed their springs: Is it necessary to have a spring compressor to install the new springs? Or will the 1.25" change allow me enough room to get the bolts started without one? I hate to be standing there with my struts apart and not be able to get them back together without a compressor (or Chuck Norris)

Sorry, that's a typo. 75 ft-lbs is fine for 12mm. For 14mm it should be 110 ft-lbs.

Then call us ****. We ALWAYS use a torque wrench for tightening wheel fasteners.

I didn't use a spring compressor, and everything worked out fine.

I carry my torque wrench for the first 50 miles or so and re-torque after each 15-20 miles. I don't want my wheels flying off.

To me that's the way the R56 should look; an even space all around the arch. My only quandary is do I install mine now or wait till the snowy season has passed.

Dan, did you just buy a set of MC side markers and slip them on? I don't like my S markers, and wondered how much the swap would cost me.

Jascooper.... Thanks for starting this tread. I never mind blazing a trail, however when someone else does it I don't mind following them. After searching and searching past postings I too ordered the Mach V Springs. All of Dan's responses were on the mark.

Let see now... the Cooper S is still on the boat.... and I've ordered non-run flat tires and springs. Yeah, I am normal.

Again, thanks Dan and Jascooper
