rear clunk

I just installed the Alta 19mm swat bar on the rear of my car and it makes a subtle clunk noise when going over bumps. Is that normal?

if every thing is tight it could be the bushing strap hitting the body, thats what was happening on mine

Re-checked all connections with the subframe and anything else I may have screwed up during install, but still clunking. Wonder what gives??

used a long pry bar and a hammer to bend the the pice of the body out of the way
you just need to move it a little bit
in the end i did remove the bar all together and replaced it with an H&R that uses the factory bushing claps

When it comes down to it, is it a really big problem if it is clunking? If it is seriously a fitment issue but the components are tight, the bar is in place, and there seems to be no problem with the performance, will it really hurt the body of the car? The clunk doesn't bother me and as of right now, it doesn't seem to be a serious issue.

Check the endlinks. Mine were tight, or so I thought, but were still clanking like crazy over the bumps.

Check to make sure the bushings are 19mm and not 22mm.I installed an Alta 19mm bar a couple weeks ago and they sent 22mm bushings by mistake,Didn't realize until the bar was installed and had a clunk

Hmmm, I bought the bar direct from Alta when I went to Minis in the Mountains so I figured that they would have checked this out for me. Well, that gives me another idea, but what would I look for to signify 22mm bushings rather than 19mm bushings?

Well, it ended up being the bushings and Alta is sending me the correct ones as we speak. Thanks again for helping me diagnose the problem.

mmh, I have a 22mm Alta rear sway bar and I have that same clunking noise...so you say to check the endlinks and the bushing straps? If it is the endlinks, how can I eliminate the clunking apart for tightening them?

Yes crank down on the end links. Will get rid of the noise.

Just went though this myself. It was loose and mis-adjusted endlinks. Make sure swaybar is NOT preloaded and end-links are tight both on swaybar and control arms. Mine was making clunking noises at very low speeds, that I could hear. Originally thought broken exhaust hanger but it was not. Glad hunted that gremlin down!
