Lowering the R56

There has been a lot of talk as to not being able to lower the R-56 to an acceptable amount so we had to give it a shot. Here is our new R&D car on the new coil overs and stock 16 inch wheels with the 195 / 55 series tires . At this stage the car drives fine, doesn't rub and can still take a railroad crossing at speed. The interesting part is that we still haven't gone as low as it can. We have a 17 inch wheel set to go on the car with 215/40 series which will have the same overall diameter of the set up on the car now so the look will be the same but the handling should be improved. More to come.

How low do you want to go ?

Thanks for sharing your work, Randy. Do you have any info on your site yet for R56 stuff?

Very, very nice!! I was just talking to Peter the other day about you guys lowering it on the coilovers. Thanks for posting the pics, Randy. Looks a whole lot better than factory 4X4 option.

We are currently working on several R-56 projects and the coil overs are the first completed project. As yet we have not updated the site but will shortly. The pricing is the same as for the R- 53 which is $ 1499 complete with springs.

Looks great, Randy. Do you know how much of a drop you have there?

Any chance of removing the bolt-on black plastic strip of the front (lowest part of the car)? I wonder what that is for anyway.

We think we are about a 2 inch drop at this time . We just put the new wheels and 40 series tires on it and in a line of other minis the roof level was the lowest of them all. Pretty damn amazing . That lower plastic section could be removed but we have heard that it helps prevent lift of the front end at high speeds. It looks easy enough to remove and replace for an experiment in any event .

Randy the car looked awesome last night! You mentioned you were putting the rear control arms on today. Have you? do you notice much of a difference?

Thanks for the nice words , it is coming together We are taking the car to H-sport for the entire ball of wax tomorrow. Corner balance, end links , sway bars and rear control arms will be taken care of then . We will also be doing some preliminary work on some new items as well. We have an appointment with a automotive writer for a test session this weekend for both cars so we need to get it dialed in FAST
