Some other items...

like Ryan found in the Alliance article, you need to do something about the sway bar end link. The bolt on the R53 one is too short, as is the one for the Alta R53 sway bar. You can grind down the boss like Ryan did, or get a end-link for the R56. I haven't called Alta yet to see if they have parts to modify the R53 adjustable end link.

My arms didn't have tapped holes for the speed sensor allen head bolt. It's a M6x1 thread so you can buy a tap.

For those with the TCE larger rear brake rotors, you have to grind down the arms a bit otherwise the button head screws will interfere with the control arm and the caliper frame wont seat properly.

Hope this helps....

Matt

Since it seems this conversion (which is quite involved and expensive) is done to reduce unsprung weight, what exactly is the weight difference between R53 steel and R56 cast alumium rear arms?

I have read the weight difference to be 12 pounds.

We actually still offer this conversion, as I've done it to one of my cars. You actually don't need all those parts, but it's still expensive. I'll put it together for anyone that wants.

Folks,

Can the R52/R53 bolts be reused when doing the R56 trailing arm install? That is:

3x Pivot Arm bolts
2x Brake Caliper Mounting Bracket Bolts
1x Shock bolt
1x Eccentric bolt

I bought the trailing arms from a 3rd party, but all they included are the wheel bearing bolts. I'm trying to determine what I need to go hunt down at junk yard or buy online vs. just re-use from my R52.

Thanks for any feedback.

You need the R56 bolts for the shock, control arms to attach to the trailing arm, and bushing. Look at our set as it comes complete with everything you need:
