Does anyone have an update of the body creak when travelling slow on uneven surfaces such as dirveways, please advise. I am experiencing the same problem with an '03 S

Greetings!

I haven't experienced any squeaks or rattles with my MCS '03 but I do hear a muffled creaking noise ocassionally from the rear of the car which I think is the rear hatch. Today I adjusted (out) the rubber bump stops on the hatch lid, lubed the latch and put rubber dressing on the weatherstrip.
My wife is now test driving the car - we will see ????
Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Ron

I get a similar creak, usually after the roof has been opened or closed, just one pop, sounds like its coming from the sun roof. Very annoying. Any minor change in the road surface causes it from driveways to change in diagnol surface.

Mine was gone for a while after adjusting the latch and bump stops for the hatchback, but has returned (whilest in the dealer I had them adjust it as well--no help.)

I believe it's coming from the latch for the boot, as opposed to the hinges, but can't figure out which components are disagreeing with each other. One of these days in an AR fit I'll take it apart & figure it out.

The latch in the body can float in or out, and left to right when the bolts are loosened (10mm socket). The bump stops, too, can be adjusted in or out.

I think I know what you mean. It's not a rattle and it only happens once in a while, usually when moving diagonally across a fairly steep incline. I keep waiting for the dreaded windsheild crack to appear soon after it happens.

My boot was creaking loud enough to drive me nuts. Even my wife commented on it (who is normally oblivious to any sounds a car makes.)

I made a project out of it.

I removed the plastic cover from the rear of the car so that I could see the latch and try to get at what was causing the noise. I adjusted the latch in and out, put nylon washers in between the latch and body, adjusted the bump stops, etc. and finally removed the latch altogether before figuring out what was causing it.

The D-hook on the boot rubs on the latch when pressure is applied outward. If the bump stops are adjusted out too far, this puts add'l pressure on the latch, and the creak gets very loud.

I adjusted the latch to a middle position, and screwed the bump stops in until it didn't rattle and didn't creak (well, loudly anyway.) A half-turn can make a difference.

It's much better now, and only noticable if you're listening for it. This is, by the way, after having the dealer 'fix' it--not.

Hope this helps someone keep their sanity.

Jeff

I tried *everything* to cure the clunking hatchback and made absolutely no progress. I had the dealer work on it and *presto* -- not a peep in weeks.

I've got a squeeking sound also coming from somewhere on the back end, probably from the wheels or axle area. I know it's not the rear hatch (already had that fixed), and it only occurs on uneven surfaces. I brought it up to the dealer when it was in the shop last week, but they did not hear anything. Of course after I take the car back home, what do I hear? Gonna have to go back to the dealer again

All my rear rattles have come from the back seat latches. Try driving w/ the seats down. (...just something to check out while experimenting.)

On Coop I fixed its loud latch with what else.....
DUCT TAPE!!!

I just wrapped a little around the D hook the comes up with the door.
Be careful not to made the wrapping to thick or it may stick when openning.
Another + is that duct tape's silver and isn't that noticable.

Well, my rattle is gone. I think the metal of the mechanism was bumping the metal of the D hook when closed and with MINI in motion. Hope this helps .

be sure and ask the dealer how long raddles and creaks are warranted. Either 11,000 or 12,000 miles
SURPRISE
